Lunch break survey madness

If I looked on your bed right now, what would I find?
A red-covered duvet; sage fitted sheet; a few pillows. (The bed is almost never made, so it's probably not today.)

Do you go to the bathroom with the door open or closed?
Always closed if someone else is around. Open in the dark and occasionally otherwise.

Are your clothes ironed?
No. I don't own an iron

Sleep on your back or stomach?
Neither, usually. Never stomach. Rarely back.

Are you a cuddler?
Only with family.

Are you single?
Nope.

Does someone love you?
Some people do.

What were you doing before this survey?
I grabbed my lunch out of my boss's fridge, then started reading my DWlist, where I found this survey.

What will you do after the survey?
If there's time, I'll do the religion survey that's going around. Otherwise, I'll just get back to work.

Marriage or living together?
I don't think I'll ever get legally married, but my partners and I (both the one I live with and the one I don't) are about as married as we're legally allowed to be.

What shirt are you wearing now?
This one: Photo on 2011-02-07 at 11.59

Do you believe in love?
Approve of? Yes. Believe it exists? Yes.

Do you de-label your beer bottles?
I don't drink beer, but I sometimes do peel labels off things.

Do you talk about your feelings or hide them?
Hmm. I talk about my thoughts a LOT. I talk about my feelings less freely, but probably still more than the average person does.

Is there something you regret and wish you could take back?
Sure, lots of things, but I've mostly made peace with them.

First thing you do when you wake up?
Usually turn off my alarm.

What are you excited for?
I'm going back to school!!!! And FOGcon

Do you like the beach?
I do, but mostly the water. Everything else, I can take or leave.

Who's the last person you texted?
[personal profile] james_huber

Do you hate someone?
No, though there are people I think are toxic to me, so some people might call that hate.

Do you tend to rip the paper off water bottles?
How is this substantially different from the beer-bottle question?

When you shut off your alarm clock, do you tend to fall back asleep?
No, but I have to set the alarm somewhere where I have to get up to turn it off, because if I don't actually get out of bed, I'm likely to fall back to sleep.

If you were given the chance to take care of a monkey for a weekend, would you?
NO!

What are you looking forward to in the next few months?
My mom's visit; a fair bit of time off; FOGcon; cheesecake party at work (because I'm making mom's cheesecake for them); and ohmigosh, about six months until I go back to school, did you know I'm going back to school?

When will you turn 50?
In about 5 1/2 years.

Are you ticklish?
Yes. Very.

Where do you wish you were right now?
At home. That's where I almost always wish I were.

What song are you currently listening to?
"The Sweetheart of the Rodeo", Emmylou Harris (on my "Sad cowgirls" Pandora station)

Have you ever passed out from drinking?
Nope.

Do you believe in cheating?
Approve of? No. Believe it exists? Oh yes.

What time did you wake up this morning?
6:45

Do you have any cousins?
On my mom's side, there are 20 of us. One died as a child; another died in 1994, at age 41, of breast cancer. I have heard through the grapevine that my dad's brother may have adopted a child at some point, but I don't know those uncles, so I'm not sure I'm even remembering it right.

What makes you smile?
Too many things to count!

Who was the last person you talked to on the phone?
My mom. I call her every morning and every afternoon/evening, generally.

Are you happy?
I am.

Are you hungry?
Not very. I just finished my lunch. But I might want a snack in a bit.

What was your dream last night?
I can't remember, but it was unpleasant.

Do you like to shop?
Sometimes. Food shopping is fun for me.

What side of the heart do you draw first?
Left.

Can you dive without plugging your nose?
Yes.

What color is your razor?
I don't own a razor.

What is your blood-type?
I don't know! I keep thinking I should know, and now and then I find out, and then forget.

Who would you want to be tied to for 24 hours?
Nobody. It doesn't sound like fun to me. That said, the person I find least annoying in the world is [personal profile] james_huber, so if I had to pick someone, I'd pick him.

What is a rumor someone has spread about you?
I don't think I'm aware of any. But I want to hear them. Spill!

How do you feel about carrots?
Love them, especially cooked, with butter.

How many chairs are at the dining room table?
No clue. Three or four, maybe?

Which is the best Spice Girl?
I have absolutely no opinion on the Spice Girls. I know that people find them mockable, but I've got no information to make my own decision about it.

Do you know what time it is?
12:16pm, Pacific Standard Time

1) Do you believe in God?
Nope.

2) Define God.
What I think most people mean by "God": A supernatural being or force that is the creator and/or source of the Universe, or an emergent property of it, and (usually) that cares how humans behave.

What I think God is: A fairy tale that comforts some people, scares others, and justifies some people's impulses toward kindness or cruelty.

3) What religion were you raised with?
Roman Catholicism

4) Do you practice that religion?
Not any more. I hated it, and bailed as early as I could do without risking life and limb. (I was around 13 when I refused to be confirmed, and started going to a Protestant church. My mother was horrified.)

4a)Any subsequent religions?
(a) Southern Baptist for a couple years
(b) Seventh-day Adventist for 8 years
(c) ChurchLite

5) Your most spiritual moment?
For some value of "spiritual", I immediately thought of this afternoon I spent with my nephew when he was maybe 10. We swam out as far as I felt we safely could in the ocean. It was perfectly calm and quiet out there, and I felt like we'd left the physical world for a while. It was beautiful.

6) The last time you were in a house of worship...
Hmm. Probably when I voted in November.

7) Death is...
(a) When whatever processes that give rise to consciousness and self-directed activity in a biological organism permanently stop working in that organism.
(b) I don't believe in a soul that survives past the death of the body.

8) How do you picture the end of the world?
I usually don't. If I felt more curious about it, I might do some reading up on it and form an opinion, but it's not something I care a lot about.

9) God has spoken to you...
(a) No.
(b) I had a hallucination when I was bleeding to almost-death, in which "god" made it clear to me that it was going to take care of me, and for a while I thought I'd mistaken an angel for god. Not sure why I thought an angel was more likely than god to have come and comforted me.

10) If so, what did God tell you?
No words. Just warm comfort. I was in shock.

11) Do you feel that most wars start because of religious conflict?
Most wars are really about economic and political power, but religion is often used to get people to support the war.

12) Does life exist on other planets?
I think it's very likely.

13) Have they made contact with us?
I doubt it.

14) Do you believe that we are descendants of Adam and Eve.
No.

15) Do you believe in evolution?
Yes. As much as I "believe" in electrons, the sun, and the laws of thermodynamics.

16) Do you believe in astrology?
Nope. It's total hogwash.

17) Do you read your horoscope?
No.

18) If yes, why?

19) Have you ever been in psychotherapy?
Yes.

20) If yes, why?
The state offered it to me for free after I almost died when I was attacked at work (worker's compensation paid for it).

21) Do you believe in reincarnation?
(a) The universe has conservation of matter and energy. ("We are all star-stuff.")
(b) A being's personality does not go into another body after the being dies.

22) If reincarnation exists, what would you like to come back as?
Someone as well-loved and fortunate as I am, but with more benevolence, industry, and compassion.
