The first time I talked to
stonebender on the phone, his dog Gilly started barking, and scared the bejeebus out of me. I had always been afraid of dogs, and Dobermans, even silly ones like Gilly, sound really scary when they bark.
stonebender and I were a bit nervous about how this would affect our in-person visits, and she was in her crate the first time I visited. Then when everything calmed down a little, he let her out, she galumphed across the floor, and something remarkable happened -- not only did I fall instantly in love with this dog who acted like an addled toddler, but I lost my fear of dogs. Very amazing and silly dog, this Gillygirl.
And now she's sick, and had a vet appointment, and I don't know what's up, and she might be nearing the end of her life, and I'm just so fretful about it. I met her when she was young -- 4, I think -- and now she's old, and there's never been a time in my relationship with
stonebender when she wasn't a factor.
I'm not generally sentimental about animals, but I don't want to think about losing the Gillygirl. :-(
