Just finished the invoice for the big contract job. Totalling both invoices, I came in at 52.5% of the original budget max agreed on. Sure, I could've found ways to bill more hours and make more on this project, but the hourly rate was really good (only $5 per hour less than my optimal charge rate, and this client was one I knew I wouldn't have to chase for the money). Besides, maybe next time they need someone to do this kind of work, the guy will think, "Hey, Serene did that for us last time, and not only did she finish on time, she did it cheaply."

That's the hope, anyway.

Anyway, I'm happy, and I'm getting better at estimating things -- when we first had talks, I told the guy that I'd be surprised if I didn't come in well under budget.

So long as I'm making enough to make my bills and buy food, I've got enough money, and lately, it looks like that might become the default state, instead of the last year or so when a dollar was usually obtained by cushion-diving or borrowing 99 cents from family.

I know that those of you who have lived check-to-check (probably most of the people I know) will know what kind of relief is building in me.

Thanks! I'm proud of myself, and I'm oh-so-happy to be working at home. It's been a dream of mine for a long time.
