Plug for paperbackswap.com -- probably US-centric, but I'm not sure
So far, I've received the following books (each one in exchange for one of my unwanted books and the postage to send it to another paperbackswap.com member). It's perfect for me -- I get rid of clutter and get new stuff I want for almost no money. (Apologies to my friends for getting your books for free, but I rush to assure you that when I have money for new books, I go for my friends' books first -- mostly so I can add them to my "Stuff by people we know" bookshelf and be cool-by-association.)
The King's Peace (The King's Peace, Book 1) - Jo Walton (
papersky)
Running with Scissors: A Memoir - Augusten Burroughs
Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!: Adventures of a Curious Character - Ralph Leighton, Richard P. Feynman
How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents - Julia Alvarez
Brown Girl in the Ring - Nalo Hopkinson
(Also on their way are The Secret Country (by Pamela Dean, AKA
pameladean); Such a Pretty Face: Being Fat in America, by Marcia Millman; and How Much for Just the Planet?, by John M. Ford.)
Also, from their companion site, swapacd.com, I've already received a John Gorka CD that's out of print ("Out of the Valley"), and a Christine Lavin disc is on its way. Fun! (The cdswap site charges a fee of something like US$.49 for each disc transaction.)
