Next time I complain about how little money I have, I need to remind myself how many CDs I have (dozens, if not hundreds), and what a great apartment, and how much food, and how very many belongings.

I have everything I need, and most of what I want. I am rich.

I came to that realisation in myself a few weeks back. I was in the middle of a grizzle session when I stopped mid-sentence and said "You know something... I have a beautiful wife, an adorable son, I own my own home, I have food in the cupboards and wonderful friends. I really don't have anything to complain about."

And I shut up.

It was a real eye- and mind-opener. A catharsis of sorts.

And you have the most wonderful family in the world, which I think is the greatest treasure of all.

Yeah, I get this way, too. It's lovely.

A song that has sometimes been performed at my children's improv shows:
Buy nothing today!
Consider that you might have and be enough
Invest yourself in the ones that you love
And not in amassing more stuff!
Personally I very much appreciate all the good tools, resources, etc. that I have and can use for work and creative endeavors and general enjoyment and so on, but I sometimes will tell myself that I do already have everything I need to accomplish a great number of things I want to accomplish.
