[livejournal.com profile] purplerifka made this one up...

...and I like it:

you will be left on an island for 2 years.'
you can take:

10 books
9 cds/cassettes/albums
8 movies
7 friends
6 photos
5 articles of clothing
4 food items
3 articles of bedding
2 pets
1 electronic gadget

10 books

A book on edible wild plants
A book on surviving on an island
Two blank books for writing
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
A book of puzzles/games to pass the time
Two big thick murder mysteries
In the Palm of your Hand
Stephen King's On Writing

9 cds/cassettes/albums

Hotel California
Tracy Chapman
American Pie
Joan Baez, Rare, Live, and Classic (that's 3)
Something of John Gorka's
Rickie Lee Jones
August and Everything After

8 movies

Bull Durham
Fried Green Tomatoes
The BBC Hitchhiker
The PBS "Tales of the City"
Meatballs (shut up, it's comfort food)
Something about surviving on an island
The first Austin Powers
Spinal Tap

7 friends [only if they wanna go]

6 photos

I just don't care about photos, so I probably wouldn't take any, unless
they were six photos of edible plants on the island.

5 articles of clothing

1 swimsuit
1 raincoat
1 pair of sturdy hiking shoes
1 pair of comfy sandals
1 comfortable dress

4 food items

Tomato plant
Potato to plant (not sure how to plant potatoes, but I'd wanna plant
potatoes)
Big huge sack of lentils (they're good for sprouting and eating, and I
could grow some, too)
Soybeans, ditto

3 articles of bedding

I would go to the camping-goods store and let them recommend which things
to take

2 pets

[livejournal.com profile] stonebender and [livejournal.com profile] sogwife will not go without their
companion animals, so sorry, I need four pets -- Gilly, Dude, Freya, and
Loki

1 electronic gadget

If it's connected to the internet, I'll take a computer. Otherwise, I
guess a two-way radio is my best bet

Fine company, but to two years without [livejournal.com profile] staircasewriter I'd have to say no.

I love the mix of practical and fun here. :-) Also, you have great taste in music.

Gilly probably shouldn't make Dude, Freya, and Loki's acquaintance though... :)

If you're going to take all those CDs and movies, your one piece of electronic equipment really ought to be something that will allow you to hear and see them.

You're going to be on a (one presumes deserted) island; what do you need a swimsuit for?

If I have a computer, I can play the media. If I don't, I just don't care enough about movies/CDs to care -- mostly, I'd just end up singing.

And a swimsuit is, for me, a comfortable piece of clothing to have on in warm weather if I'm going to be wearing clothing. Depending on which combination of people comes along with me, I might want to be wearing clothing.
