So my latest Bzz campaign thingy (*waves at [livejournal.com profile] misanthropoid*) is the new Jim Carrey movie, "The Number 23".

Oh, man, based on the trailer, I would probably want to chew my arm off to get out of the theater. When I finally rolled my eyes nearly out of my head, it was in a purely geeky fit of pique:

Stupid professor character: "And 2 divided by 3 is point-six-six-six, the number of the devil."

Um, no it's NOT. Not unless Dubya really gets to declare that pi equals 3.

Go away. Really.

Wouldn't it be .666666(repeat bar), the infinite repeating decimal of the Beast? ;)

(Instead of "It's turtles all the way down" it becomes "It's Lucifer all the way down....")

Oh, come now. 2 divided by 3 is the number of the devil to infinity, so that makes it all the more evil, right? ;-) Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Besides, Jim Carrey in a horror movie, that's more frightening than anything else they can put on the silver screen. There's just no way it's going to be worth watching.

I found it interesting that they chose "23". It's a number that has been called "mystical" in many numerological belief systems, especially recent pop-culture ones. As such, they get to tap into this vast '23' zeitgeist. People have been secretly including the number in all kinds of stuff for ages, so it's like a hundred-year unofficial ad campaign for their movie. Also, people who see it will suddenly start to notice 23 cropping up all over the place. The movie looks crap, but that bit of marketing strategy was kind of genius.
