Why the bees aren't swarming any more.

(Don't click if you don't like bees.)

Is that a new wild hive forming?

They're gone now, aside from a few stragglers. No trace of a hive. Apparently they were just resting for the night.

Beeeeeeees!

I really like honeybees. We used to have hives when I was a kid, got honeycomb in the summer (yum!)

I would recommend getting a smoker and a net hood, just in case you need to waive them off of that branch. :)

Despite your warning and despite my serious bug-phobia, I clicked. And now I am all ick.

I have only myself to blame.

I can see how that would have been kinda cool though.

Those were cool pictures, but they didn't really explain why the bees aren't swarming anymore.

One thing I read is that bees are not at all dangerous when they're swarming. In fact, they're kind of woozy and slow-moving at that time. It's a good time to capture them, if that's what you (or a beekeeper) wanted to do.

I have a moderate phobia of bees, but I also like them, which is a bit weird. The upshot is that I like pictures of them and I think they're interesting. They're also our friends, environmentally, and I associate them with nice stuff like flowers and fruit.

But if one buzzes around my head, I get all stupid and start waving them away and doing bee-seizure dances which, I know, I know, only increases my risk of getting stung - but who says it's rational behavior?

I really enjoy photographing bees (I took the picture of the one in this icon).
