Because morbid thoughts to other people are amusing/joyful thoughts to me, at least sometimes:

Write my eulogy. I mean, I don't plan to die any time soon, but if you feel like it, comment here and let me know what you'd say at my funeral if I were to have one. Y'know?

You're on

"We gather together today to celebrate the life that was led by Serene, who is now an inanimate pile of bones and decaying flesh beneath our feet. She has likely not gone onto a happy reward, better place or white-light afterlife; she's just gone.

I'll miss her cheerful demeanor in the face of asshattery, the charming way she could call anyone their shit and not get yelled at, and her ability to spot and not tolerate bullshit.

PS. If Serene has gone to a heaven, she is likely chatting up $deity and trying to figure out why so many of his/her/their/its earthly managers are so anti-sex. Or maybe she's just having a cuppa.

PPS. If Serene has decided to have herself cremated, than substitue 'a dainty pile of fat ash before us' for 'an inanimate pile of bones and decaying flesh beneath our feet.'" If she's been buried at sea, well, fuck it; use your imagination and just cope."

[Without looking at RJ's]

Serene had a unique perspective on the world, in my experience. I never knew anyone who was better at framing the happiness in her life and keeping herself focused on joy. This was especially notable because she did it without marginalizing or denying her unhappy days in the present, as well as the hard times in her history. In a time and place when most of us share our troubles and hoard our delights, she was open-handed and open-hearted with both. She knew how to love fully, without deifying her partners when things were good or demonizing them when things were bad. She was as good at being out about her lifestyle and her choices as anyone I've ever known. She named herself "Serene," but I might have chosen "Cheery" or "Joyful," a word she did use about herself. The world is smaller without her.

Thank you so much, darling. (Sorry for the long delay in acknowledging this.)

(mis)quoting joyce seems apt: she lived, and loved, and laughed, and left.

"Our dear friend, Serene, made toffee to die for. And then you know what? She did!"

She was the original HBB, and I regret that I never had the chance to ...
