1) Well, if I'd wanted to, I could've thought of a more creative way to get out of doing the dishes than to chop off the tip of my thumb. Oh, well. [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy's being sweet about it; he's gonna help me wash my hair, and do the dishes for the time being. Fortunately, I can do other stuff, so I don't feel *totally* useless. I did some laundry today, and my typing isn't affected, so I didn't miss any work.

2) And speaking of laundry, I'm still really liking our new laundry machines. We've had them for two weeks, and even though we never did make a big trip to the laundromat, we're getting ahead of the laundry. We've practically gotten all our clothes clean; a couple more days, and we'll have it all done. After that, I'm hoping that a load or two a day will do us. (I'm feeling a little guilty that by "our clothes" I mean mine and [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy's, along with the household towels and stuff -- since [livejournal.com profile] sogwife has a washer at her house, we're letting her fend for herself.) I don't expect we're going to need the laundromat again except for the really big stuff like blankets and terrycloth robes. This is really saving us money.

3) Speaking of money, we took a HUGE tax hit this year (yes, W-4s are being adjusted) -- much larger than expected. Add that to the fact that I'm currently between contract gigs, and I hope y'all will forgive me if I'm not up for anything that costs money for the time being. :-) We're gonna be fine -- plenty of food, more than enough money to pay our bills. Just not LOTS more than enough, so we're gonna have to be really careful for the foreseeable future. I'm really resisting the urge to get a third job -- in the long run, I think that will hurt more than it will help.

4) Family stuff with my mom and the munchkins is really bad, but I can't talk about it without sinking into the pit of frustrated despair, so I think I won't. *sigh*

Love and smooches to you all.

I just tried doing a bunch of normal things without using the tip of my thumb. Even typing is weird. I hope it heals real quick.

I decided to do a huge load of sheets and towels in the money machines in the basement yesterday because I was feeling lazy. I took my spin-dryer with me, and saved a ton of dryer time.

Just to be clear: I didn't hurt my thumb. I was trying to put myself in your shoes. (Gloves?)

OUCH!

as soon as i can afford them, i'm buying a set of those machines. here's my question, though: can they handle a bedsheet? i'd hate to get them and still have to take my massage sheets to the laundromat. but i spend $40-$75/month at the laundromat. that's too much.

Poor thumb.
Yay for the new technology making your life easier and less expensive.
Taxes - long day yesterday, will have to file an amendment to the state taxes because they are now requiring DP's to file as Married. Will save us a little $$ in the long run, but still had to send in the full amount yesterday. Yuk
Mom and munchkins, *sigh*, so very sorry.
*hugs*

A patch about an eigth-inch (a third of a cm?) deep, and not too big around. It's not a major injury, but it hurts, and I want to see if the piece will knit back. I suspect it won't, since it came all the way off, but we'll see.

Ooh, ouch. I did something like that once. For the record, it didn't completely detach, but almost. It healed but left a funny scar. Hope it feels better soon.

Do you mind if I friend you? I have an embarrasingly small list. :P

Yeah, that's me.

Most of my LJ posts are set to friends...didn't used to be, but life has been somewhat complicated for me lately. Was feeling a bit too exposed.

In any event, I sometimes read your journal here...am completely jealous about the organic boxes. I don't have anything like that here and since we moved a year or so ago, I haven't had much time to grow anything either. :( I think I'm going to take some time off from work this morning and build some frames for a square-foot garden. I have tons of scrap untreated lumber.

Cool! If you have need of it, I have a copy of the old edition of Square Foot Gardening that I could ship to you.

I've done something similar to that -- cut a slice right off my thumb while slicing potatoes. I have a round scar there now. I hope your recovery is as fast and uncomplicated as mine was.

Ya know what...I'd love to have a copy of it! I've seen it offered or mentioned a bunch of times on the internet, but I've never gotten a copy. I've gleaned info about them from various people's webpages. Last year my son's school asked me to help them design a children's vegetable garden and I tried to convince them to use a square foot system. They didn't completely go for it...they wanted the garden to be more communal (by class rather than by individual)...but they did use the the basic idea (raised, no more than so many feet deep for ease in gardening, some of the beds divided into quadrants). They used the fresh fruits/veggies for the kids' snacks/lunches.
