Aug. 27th, 2008 12:04 amJust looking at my first real timesheet for Cal, which goes in on Friday.
I've earned 5 hours of vacation pay (I work 4 hours a day, so that's a little more than a day). I've also earned 4 hours of sick leave.
What this means is that by the end of my first year here, I will (because I almost never miss work) have likely accumulated three weeks of vacation and 12 days of sick leave.
It's a very rare thing in my life to get paid time off. I'm just sitting here savoring it right now.

Date: 2008-08-27 03:25 pm (UTC)Not so happy for myself, because even working 37.5 hours per week, I get only 13 days of vacation/personal time, which includes sick leave. My self-employment plans must be ramped up, right now! Then, I'll get vacation whenever I can afford it. Of course, that may be seldom in the first year or two, but I think that it will be worth it. :)

Date: 2008-08-27 05:55 pm (UTC)On the way to that goal, I'm using my existing computer skills to set up a PC support and training business, named "Compudogs Consulting". I hope to have the web site up and running within a few weeks, but people have already paid me to do things like set up default signature files in their email and troubleshoot their wireless internet connection. It's wonderful to be paid to do something I love!
