[livejournal.com profile] someotherguy is sick today, and I know how sucky that feels, so I stopped at the store on the way home to get him some comfort food. Espresso-chocolate-chip cookies, and the makings for soup. LOTS of soup. This will be the weekend of soup, I'm thinking.

I got chicken necks and backs for stock. I got a big chuck roast. I got peeled shrimp on sale for five bucks a pound, score. I got a ton of veggies, including lemongrass. I got coconut milk. I got bacon and potatoes and heavy cream.

Right now, in my fridge, there are two quarts of beef stew and two of tom kha (with chicken and shrimp, but I forgot the lime juice, so it's yummy but a little flat), along with another two quarts of the way too much gravy from the stew -- that's what's left after the three of us stuffed ourselves silly with soup and stew and bread and butter. Tomorrow, I'll also make potato soup with bacon, and the munchkin and I are gonna make green-tea ice cream.

It's the Weekend of Soup!

Right now, I'm kinda wishing [livejournal.com profile] dbubley were home so I could take her some soup, especially since they're both lactose-free. Wonder if I could smuggle some into the hospital.

I better she'd love some, but it's aways weird bringing food into the hospital. She said the food hasn't been that bad this time. She's gets fresh fruit with each meal and they buy it from the farmer market folks that are in front of Kaiser on Fridays. She's only had one piece so far that was tasteless.

Oooh, tom kha sounds perfect. Are you willing to share your recipe?

We love soup. I made two soups this week-a chickpea one and a black bean one. Last week I made a pinto bean one. Now that the weather is cooler I cannot wait to start making potato-leek soup. yum!

Potato soup in all its forms is one of my favorites YUM. If I am up to it later I just might make up some of my own. It is from a mix but still pretty good. I had some Italian wedding soup last night that for being canned was pretty tasty. So happy for soup weather coming up YAY!
