Am I the only person on earth who thinks Susan Boyle is a cutie-pie? I'm starting to think maybe so. (And I may be guaranteeing by writing this that when I go read my friendslist I will find that a hundred of you do, too.)

I loved how surprised she seemed. She had no idea how awesome she was, or she couldn't quite believe it or something. It was really cool to see.

slit (who I know slightly from else-net, and suspect you would enjoy reading) had a post (http://slit.livejournal.com/429638.html) about her, and many of the commenters agree. I would not have wholeheartedly agreed had the singing video been the only one I'd seen, because I find her hairstyle and outfit there pretty unflattering, but I've seen other pictures and video interviews, and I would agree based on those.

I think it's more the whole reality show thing. Half the people who audition are stinking awful. Given her unpolished appearance, they expected her performance to be anything from unpolished to outright ridiculous.

I don't think it was an inherent physical looks thing so much as a how she presented herself thing. And I kind of love it. I fucking loathe that I have to put on expensive, uncomfortable clothing to show people that I am good at my job which happens to be sitting around in my jammies at the computer. It's so silly. So I have some hope that more people are able to turn the polished look expectation on it's head. :)

I agree that it wasn't just looks, but presentation--she came across as a bit ditsy. There was also the very strong accent--and then the clear, unaccented singing.

I didn't think the singing was unaccented, but while I agree that she came across as ditsy, I think a conventionally beautiful woman who'd come across as ditsy wouldn't have gotten the same set of reactions (think "Miss America" pageants, for instance).

I think she is cute, which was part of reason I made that angsty post earlier today. It's all of a piece: I look at the world and see one thing (e.g., an unconventionally cute woman who is an excellent singer) and these other people look at the supposedly same world and see something entirely different (pork on a doily)

I think she is adorable, but I really don't get the whole thing. She is actually pretty typical looking for someone from her backround. I love her quirkiness, but that is pretty typical too. I have stayed at so many B&B's in the UK run by interesting looking quirky women who sang really well. Not as well as her obviously, but really well.

I mostly don't think of "cute" as applying past puberty, but quite pleasant looking, and seems like someone I'd enjoy knowing.
