I feel I should point out that I had meatloaf when I was a kid, and my family is British (and I grew up in Britain). It's rather out of fashion these days, though.

Based on the 1970s recipe book my Mum gave me when I started living out of University accommodation (=> probably what she was using when we growing up, given how battered it is!)[1]:

1lb minced beef, blend with a good pinch of seasoned salt, shake of seasoned pepper, garlic salt, 2 eggs and 2 oz. breadcrumbs. Put into well-greased loaf tin, cover with greased paper and bake for 1 1/2 hours in a very moderate[0] oven.
