Pod_together

It's been a heck of a week, so I didn't get a chance to tell y'all that
pod_together is up! It was my first stab at fanfic (and probably my last; more about that under the cut). My pieces will be up tomorrow (Saturday) and Tuesday, but there's lots to choose from, with a variety of fandoms represented. (Both my stories are Harry Potter things: a love story told in letters, and another told in sonnets.)
Anywho, if you like reading and/or listening to fanfic, go check 'em out! I'm going to go listen to some, myself, just now, and I'll come back and point you to some of my favorites.
When I tell the fans I know and love that I'm "not a fan," or "not a geek," they usually argue with me about it. After all, they reason, I'm geeky/nerdy about some things -- cooking, say -- so I'm just a different kind of fan. Okay, fine, but there's something essential in the quality of fannishness that I lack. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not dissing it. I like fans and fannishness, and call myself a geekophile because it is ultra-appealing to me in other people. It's just not how I personally am hooked up.
So anyway, I don't have a fandom. I don't think like a fan. I don't, in general, behave like a fan, though my recent foray into congoing is an exception. (But really, I don't behave much like a fan at cons, either.) And I don't tend to enjoy the things that a lot of fans do. Writing fanfic is one of those things.
I like reading fanfic if it's well-written (like the first fanfic I ever read,
jae's West Wing stuff). But I like reading anything if it's well-written, and I like reading lots of things that aren't, because, well, I love to read. I'm happy when I find a good story, but none of that happiness is related to the fandom aspect of the thing. Jae's stories aren't fun for me because they're in my fandom (I like West Wing but am not fannish about it); they're fun because they're good.
Similarly, I enjoyed some of the writing parts of this. The challenge of writing a story all in sonnets was fun(ish), but would've been more fun had I had more time to do it well. The epistolary romance was fun to write, but would have been just as fun for me without the fannish backstory.
Anyway. I had some fun doing this, and I really liked working with the podficcers, but I'm not planning to do anything like this again.
