There's this woman

she inspires magenta
and wears it well
and talks with her hands, even in text

she radiates peace
but not that fluffy
new-age
marshmallow peace

it's stone contentment
rock-solid, knowing
herself as its source and
its creation

she eases onto the stage
and takes it over
she eases into your dreams
and takes you over

she is a force of nature
the kind of nature that washes
over you with its beauty, then
drags you out behind the barn
for a smoke and a drink and a laugh

she is language
word simplicity
she is a haiku -- no,
she is a dramatic monologue that leaves them
laughing in the aisles

There's this woman
she is vital
she is creation
and she lets me breathe by being this woman
this woman I recognize inside
the woman that is me

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] kightp! Love you lots.

From [livejournal.com profile] darkest_eve:

1. Tell me where you are, and what the weather is like today.

I'm at work, on the San Diego bay, and I haven't been outside since 5:45 this morning, so I have no idea what the weather is like. Hold on, I'll check.

Mmmm, sunny with a cool breeze, and a powerboat passing under the bridge. Lovely.

2. Tell me one thing you want/covet/desire for Xmas, no matter how silly it is - in fact, the sillier, the better! :)

I don't want anything. Honest. Is that silly enough? The only thing I've even gone "ooh!" at lately is the West Wing DVDs.

3. Tell me a story, in 5 sentences or less.

She fell on her knees that last time. Her meandering had lost purpose for months, and Brett and I had wondered how much longer Ella would be able to walk on her own. When we were children, she had traveled the streets of this small town, from her home to the town center and back, several times a day. Now she was there, in the front yard by the wisteria, too proud to do anything but pretend she was on her knees on purpose. Brett and I looked at each other for an instant, silently acknowledging the goodbyes that time brings, and went to help her up.

Rough day. 'nuff said.

Meme from [livejournal.com profile] joeyhemlock:

"List 10 things (or five, if you're lazy) that make you smile. These should be generic and not involve specific people so others can bask in your glory. "Having my nostrils licked by my lover" is acceptable; "Having Vic Tayback lick my nostrils" is not, even if you're sleeping with him (which, ewwww, because he's dead and all). Feel free to mention people in context of their work/art, though, i.e. "A Bon Jovi song" or "Ralph Nader's Gonads". Let's pretend like that made sense."

1. Falling asleep with my head on my lover's chest.
2. Walking in the rain.
3. The way the Munchkins light up whenever I walk into the room.
4. Finding just the right word for what I want to say.
5. Cream of mushroom soup.
6. [livejournal.com profile] misanthropoid's sick sense of humor (not technically against the rules, as it falls under his work/art, I think. Or something).
7. Knowing that I have a card from a friend waiting for me at home. (I didn't mention your name, [livejournal.com profile] bratman, because it's against the rules.)
8. Tacky postcards. (No connection to #7, I'm sure.)
9. Hearing laughter from another room.
10. My life in general.
