[I have no Bay Area filter; if you won't be near Oakland this Friday, please skip this.]

The Friday Thing will be a little different this week. Our favorite local cafe has started staying open late, and this week, Kim Addonizio (!) will be having a poetry reading there with her workshop participants. (Actually, the flyer isn't clear that she will be there, but one website I consulted said she would.) I *really* want to go to this event, so the deal is that if you want to go with us, you can either meet us at our place by 6:30 (dinner is around 6, if you're interested), or meet us at Temescal Cafe any time between 7 and 9pm. No sleepover that night, no socializing at my house, but yummy yummy poetry and stuff, if you're up for it.

More details can be had by sending me an email (serene@serenepages.org).

[livejournal.com profile] someotherguy on why it's a big hairy deal to us that Temescal is open late now, and why we were so excited to make it there last night. This made me smile, so I'm sharing it:

There's a coffee shop in San Diego called Claire De Lune. It was one of
our favorite places to go, and one of the few things we missed moving up
here. Temescal Cafe has a lot of the same vibe, and it's been our favorite
cafe since we moved here, but it closed at 4. We spent the last year
saying it would be perfect if it stayed open later. A few months ago, they
announced that they would be staying open late starting in late April, then
that date slipped to an unspecified future date. Then Monday they just
suddenly announced they were open late starting immediately. We planned to
go, but the washing machine at the laundromat malfunctioned and by the time
we got that straightened out it was too late.

So it's basically your classic tale of love lost, and the struggle to
regain it, complete with last minute plot twists and eventual redemption,
only with a coffee shop.

And Serene and I are a couple of big kids. ;-)

We have some geeky stuff up for bids on eBay -- so far, some SCA-type weapons, some gaming books, an antique poetry book set, and a WWII era soldier's cap. There'll be more soon. Go look if you want, and please point anyone who might be interested over there. Thanks!
