Goin' with the flow

My ex-boss at UC Berkeley called me at 6:45 this morning to ask if I'll
cover for the receptionist, who is out today. I said yes. I had a second
thought or two about it, being as how it's May Day and I do have some
contract stuff I'd planned on working on today, but I wrote to my clients,
told them about the change of plans, and came in to work.

I know I could just collect unemployment insurance, but if I can work for
my living, that feels better to me. My goal is to end up making more from
various contract work than I would be making on unemployment anyway. (Not
to mention I love working here, even with the politics someone just tried
to lay on me -- no, I'm not going to refuse a day's work just to make
things hard on the boss you hate. Sorry. That's the beauty of being a
temp; I don't have to do the office-politics thing. If you think that
means I'm not on your side, you're a baby and I don't have time for you.)

Anyway, here I am. People (most people, anyway) are glad to see me, and
I'm glad to be here. Hope your day is lovely.

Burst of motivation

I needed this day of getting out of the house and working for someone
else, I think. It's giving me some momentum/motivation/impetus to do some
jobhunting and work on some projects I've been letting slide. Yay. Not
exactly a very good May Day message, but there ya go.

Pretty day, happy day, I'll take it.

I suppose...

...that "The Lusty Month of May" isn't the *worst* earworm I could have.

I know it sounds like a silly sentence...

...but believe me when I say that "Except for the budding migraine, I'm
doing great" is good news. I'm in an excellent mood, the day is lovely,
and I'm going home to my home in an hour. Life is good. How's your day?

(Now if I could get people to stop coming to work drenched in perfume and
making me ill, I'd be even happier.)
