I am planning an Emergency Kit party.
[EDIT: We probably have our 10 for May, and possibly an alternate. Next one will be in August. I will post then. I plan to do this quarterly or so. I think it's that important.]
How an Emergency Kit party works is this:
Ten people sign up.
I email each person a list of some of the items recommended for a one-person emergency/disaster preparedness kit (each person will get a different list, with cheap and less-cheap items on it). You decide which thing(s) you can afford to buy ten of to contribute to the project. You do this with the understanding that some of us will buy cheap stuff and some more expensive stuff.
Then we gather at my house and I provide us each with a large cooler or similar container to hold our kits in. Then we split up each of our items, and each person gets a copy of the whole list so they can add more stuff to their kits as they can.
Then we eat massive amounts of food, exchange emergency information (optional), and those who are neighbors to each other make readiness plans (optional).
I will use ready.gov as a reference.
The first Emergency Kit party will be some time in late May. If you want to be on the email list for planning, please let me know, and let me know how many people you will be representing (that is, if you're doing a kit for four people, even if only you will be in attendance, and you want to bring ten each of four things, that's fine, I just need to know so that the number of kits equals ten total.)
