I'm sitting here at my volunteer job, doing not much but answering an occasional phone call, and finally coming down off my Month O' Busyness. My partners have been great. The rent-a-teenager has been great. Everyone at work and the volunteer job has been great.

And now I get to gear down and learn to be less busy.

Before I left for San Diego, I scaled back on job #1 (working for [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy's brother) -- I'll be doing only a few hours a month for him until further notice. Job #2 (freelance editing) is never super-busy, and almost always within my ability to fit it around whatever else is going on. Job #3 (Cal) is 20 hours a week that I get to schedule as I please. Job #4 (answering phones for my dad and brother's new business and helping them get their website up) hasn't really started yet. And the volunteer job (which I guess is job #5) is three hours a week. Job #6 is my favorite one -- it's the one where I try to make a happy, welcoming home for my family, and feed them yummy foods. And job #7 is our new, exciting publishing business, which will soon begin to eat my life.

That's a lot of jobs, huh?

I started this post intending to talk about what I was going to do with the impending downtime. Now I'm looking at that list and thinking, Oy, I need to cut back some more on my list of commitments. The paid-work jobs add up to around 30 hours a week total, maybe more some weeks. Keeping a clean and peaceful house is important enough to me, and the publishing venture is exciting enough, that I need to stop looking for other ways to spend the time when I'm not working for pay.

Ah, well. This is a perfect example of those times when I don't know what I really think/need/want until I say it (or write it).

Quoting [livejournal.com profile] redbird, who saved me the keystrokes:

Tomorrow is election day [in the US].

If you're a US citizen and haven't already voted, please go out tomorrow and vote for Barack Obama. It matters.

If you are a California resident, you probably don't need me to remind you to vote NO on propositions 4 and 8. My Florida friends, please vote no on 2.

If you're in New York, and have a contested state senate seat, please vote for the Democrat: a couple more seats in the state senate might get us same-sex marriage here by legislation. It passed the state assembly this past year, and the governor has promised to sign the bill, but the Republican leadership in the state senate wouldn't let it come up for a vote...

ETA, from [livejournal.com profile] rsc: I would add that if you live in Connecticut, please vote NO on the
question authorizing a constitutional convention, which is cover for
trying to overturn the recent court decision legalizing same-sex
marriage.
