The new Peet's in Berkeley finally opened.

I am up at 12:16am.

Whee, where? The new one in Fremont's due to open soon. I've been drinking Peet's since there was a tiny handful of stores, and I keep waiting for the quality to go down as they enlarge, but it hasn't. That said, the first "in-store" coffee I've had that was bad came right after they started serving "Freddos," the pseudofrappucinos. I figured there was a strong causal relationship. ;)

So I have no interesting coffee-related content (though I will note that reading this threatens to trigger the mighty craving I've been ignoring bouts of for several days), but I thought I would speak up here to announce that I'm friends-listing you, as I've decided it's imperative that I have another forum in which to be delighted by the things you write. :-)

I don't know the streets well yet, but it's on Shattuck, past Haste but not quite as far as Center. About a block north of Pegasus Books, if that's any help, on the same side of the street.

It's on Shattuck, almost as far north as what we call "downtown Berkeley" -- not quite as far north as the BART station.

And I haven't tried a frappuccino or however they're spelled, but I liked the caramel mocha I got at the san diego Peet's after I finally convinced them I wanted it with coffee and not with Chai.

Frappucino is actually a Starbucks thing, trademarked I think. "Freddo" is the Peet's version of the same thing, like a coffee slurpee. Peet's never was into flavored fancy coffee like that before, so I was a bit appalled.

I was pleased when I learned this past Christmas season that Peet's was now brewing eggnog lattes (sounds weird. tastes great) so I didn't have to stop at the Evil Coffee Empire for my weekly fix while shopping on North Shattuck.

I thought there was a Peet's on that stretch of Shattuck already, silly me. Shows how often I go downtown .
