Mostly, I like social events where I know at least some of the people there. This isn't a hard-and-fast rule, because I can enjoy peoplewatching in a room full of strangers, but it's a guideline. Also, I mostly didn't see the point of a local poly meetup, because the local poly community does a pretty good job of getting together on a fairly regular basis, in various groupings.

But then the local group got *really* local and started meeting a couple of blocks from my house. And then the organizer resigned without picking a successor. And then my schedule became light so that I have more time for socializing. And then I lost my mind and signed up to coordinate the thing.

I'm inordinately happy about this. I like that people are participating, signing up, RSVPing. I'm looking forward to seeing folks on Tuesday night, and to meeting the new people (well over half of the RSVPs are from people I know, including, gosh, at least six of my extended family). Should be fun, and the part that's the most fun for me is living in a town where there are enough polyfolk that a thing like this can even fly. It took months and months for the San Diego poly Meetup to hit a solid four or five attendees, and they were basically the same four or five people, with a few exceptions.

I don't generally do things that are "poly gatherings". *Alt.poly* gatherings, yes. Gatherings of poly friends of mine, definitely. Not just "let's get together because we're all poly, even though we've never met before". Not for me. Anyway, normally I don't care about generically poly things, but the state of the Bay Area is that generically poly things are *bound* to have people I know and/or love at them, so the whole feel of it is different for me. And I really, really like that.
