Today will be busy. Getting ready to fly to San Diego tomorrow with
someotherguy to see the munchkins and my mom. Wanted to note a few things about Thanksgiving and the weekend, though.
berkeleyfarm and Elissa came over Friday night for our at-home evening.
berkeleyfarm brought the best truffles I have ever had, bar none. There are three left, and I'm going to stretch them for as long as I can. Oh, my.
I hadn't ever cooked a turkey before, but I'd helped. If I do it again, I need to truss the stuffing in better -- it ended up in the soup, as it were. Cooking it breast-down was apparently good for having moise meat (I didn't taste it, but people told me, and asked if I'd brined it).
sogwife was a big help with serving the food, and I was overwhelmed with the amount of work
someotherguy did, unbidden.
Whenever I cook a really big meal, I allow for a thing or two not to reach the table. In this case, it was the squash. I just didn't have room and time enough to cook it properly, so it went in the bin. I think everything else went out, and I need a Much. Bigger. Pot. for mashed potatoes next time. We ran out. My mom would've been appalled.
I found the pumpkin soup to be hearty but bland -- it had no added fat, needed salt, etc., but I think serving it in a big pumpkin on the table was a fun choice.
There's more about this, but I'm boring myself now
Craft night is Friday.
sogwife has some extra crafty stuff, and y'all are encouraged to bring stuff to share if you have it.
And then game night is the 10th. We bought Apples to Apples, which is tons of fun, but if anyone wants to (and there are enough people), I'd *really* love to open up Cranium and learn to play. This weekend, we played Clue (it's been forever since I played that), and
sogwife and I played cribbage. Fun. I love playing games, and don't find people to do it with me often enough.
