stonebender took me to dinner and two movies tonight, Ray and Hotel Rwanda. May review the movies tomorrow, but the overall things I take away from tonight are:

* an awe of the accident of birth that has made me able to live a life essentially free of fear and want

* a consciousness of the white privilege I take for granted and trade on, and of how easy it is for me to ignore the pain of others by dismissing it all as too painful to contemplate

* a deep love for the amazing man I found myself so luckily and happily wedded to
