I don't have a Bay Area filter, and I'm operating on the principle that the more of you I have helping us with this, the better, so feel free to skip this, but it's not filtered in any way. I am not much for woo-woo stuff, but I do have a philosophy about getting stuff "out into the Universe" if I want it to happen, so here goes. Please feel free to repost this anywhere you think it might do some good:

As many of you know, our partner [livejournal.com profile] sogwife lives about an hour north of us, in Santa Rosa. We *really* want her to live within walking distance of us instead. She has been interviewing for jobs down here. Now the task before us is to find her a place and/or a good job in the East Bay.

Housing

Location: We are looking for a place within one mile of the place [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy and I share, in North Oakland. If you know the area, anything as far south as the Temescal Cafe on Telegraph, or as far north as the Berkeley Bowl on Shattuck would be good, with as close as possible to 59th and Shattuck being ideal.

Price: $900 is our upper limit on monthly rent; a really astoundingly wonderful place might convince us to go higher, but it would put a real strain on us, so lower would be great. Enough lower, and she'd be willing to consider a good roommate situation with people we know and like, or people who are eager to room with a crafty, witchy, polychick and her menagerie. If the total move-in is under $2000, we'll be ecstatic. If by some miracle you knew of an empty duplex in the East Bay, for $900 or less for each half, we would come over and wash your car every weekend for a month. Or something.

Other limiting factors: [livejournal.com profile] sogwife has indoor/outdoor cats, a caged rat, and a fish tank. These are her babies, and they need to live with her. Also, she is queer, poly, pagan, and kinky, and it's important that whoever she rents from is okay with that. Her current roommate/landlord will tell you she's a very considerate tenant. If she ends up in a roommate situation, she's not interested in living with children at this time.

Stuff that would be nice: A ground-floor place would be great. One flight of stairs would be fine. If the place is any higher, it would probably need to have an elevator. Someplace to park would be nice. A quiet street would be nice.

Okay, that's housing (may be edited if we think of other stuff). Now on to job stuff:

Employment

[livejournal.com profile] sogwife has a couple years' experience as an office manager for Lucky Mojo. She loves working somewhere witchy, but doesn't require it. She's looking for anything in office or retail work that will pay the bills. Stuff dealing with animals, pagan stuff, or crafts, especially sewing, would be ideal. If you know someone with a fabric store or a pet store or a magick shop who needs some counter help or administrative assistance, *please* let us know so she can send her resume. East Bay is best; for the right job, she's willing to commute.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Sundays are so hard, when we have to say good-bye to her for the week, and it's getting harder. We don't want to do this any more. Any ideas, any input, any help will make you one of my favored darlings, and y'all know how fun *that* can be.

I don't know if they need help, but Stonemountain and Daughters is a great local fabric store, and the Octopus's Garden is a great fish-stuff store, and both aren't far away from you.

Thanks! She has an application in at Stonemountain and Daughter, but not at the fish store, I don't think, and that would be a great location.

Also, Poppy Fabrics is nifty.

I wish I knew of more.

Thanks, babe. This'll be a huge help. Also, if you wouldn't mind posting a pointer in your journal, that'd be great, but don't worry if you don't wanna.

Strangeness... *hee* Lucky Mojo. Annette and Kathy hang out there. And I hang out with them. They say it's a lively place to work at.

Wish I could help, but my location won't do you any favors.

Ciao bella!

Thanks, though. I appreciate the chuckle and the good wishes. Hope things are good with you. Been sick, so I haven't been keeping up with LJ.

I ended up here linked through someone else, but :

Southshore Center (in Alameda) just moved a bunch of stuff around, and the Beverley's there has been advertising for a store mgr/workers on craigslist. don't remember much more than that, you'll need to check it out.

There are totally reasonable 1 bdrm apts right on the water for about $900, that allow pets. The complex is "The Dunes". Lots of the retail queers from the shopping center live there, it's easy walking distance.
