pleonastic pointed me/us to slit today, for which I am grateful, and it made me wanna ask y'all to:
List, please, some journals/blogs you read that make you think. No fair listing respect_otters, the most common answer when I ask questions like this. :-)
I'm in a hurry, so I won't do a complete info dump. But I will mention one place--
Making Light. (http://www.nielsenhayden.com/makinglight). It's two Tor editors who write about politics, writing, their hobbies, or anything else that strikes their fancy. They're good folks.
Making Light. (Comments, too. Comments make it fantastic: the originating posts are just the tip of the iceberg.)
One you probably won't hear from a lot of people is the Feel-Good Librarian, but also of interest to pretty much anyone interested in information ethics, best practices, and what do we do with all this information stuff anyway.
It depends on what you mean by "make you think." And remember, for a Democrat I'm pretty conservative/libertarian. But these few (out of the dozens I check daily) are especially thought-provoking, for me.
Little Green Footballs is full of thinking meat...but not the comments! The comment section on that blog is horrific.
Follow Me Here, which seems to be down right now, often makes me think--mostly about medical/psych issues.
Gene Expression raises a lot of questions about genetics and culture. I don't always understand everything they discuss, but the bits I get are worth it.
I got a paper for school (for an argument class; I opposed the joint custody presumption) out of a post at Trish Wilson's Blog last spring.
You can probably guess from the pointers I do, but pandagon (http://www.pandagon.net/), especially the parts written by Amanda Marcotte; bookslut; riba_rambles (by another mutual friend); and, as already mentioned, making light (don't miss the comments).
BTW, for a relatively reasonable conservative worth reading to see the picture from the other side of the fence, I've been generally rather impressed by http://www.balloon-juice.com/
[I don't know if any of these have LJ feeds; I read them from my blogroll]

My all-time favorite (and one of her earliest entries) is this one: http://feelgoodlibrarian.typepad.com/feelgood_librarian/2005/02/you_cant_fight_.html . It makes me tear up every time I read it.

My most recent addition is The Religious Policeman.

http://americablog.com/
http://susiemadrak.com/
http://thinkprogress.org/
Because among them they're more thorough than many of the other sites.
All from the liberal POV.
