Just so you know, I have discovered that the best possible post-birthday-party breakfast, barring breakfast someone else makes for you, is leftover baba ganouj and the rest of the fresh figs. Mmmmmmmm.
So far, this has been my definition of a perfect weekend. Friday, we slept in and then ran errands -- I got my birthday shoes, we shopped for software I need for work, and we stopped by the Berkeley Bowl. Then we went up to the Russian River to hang with
sogwife at her place. Had really good Mexican food at a local restaurant, watched Matrix: Revolutions (blech). Had a quick chat with her dad, who I really like. Then drove home. It's so gorgeous up there. I love the smell of pine and the view is spectacular.
Yesterday, I had a lovely day, just lovely. Spent most of the morning puttering around my house (I don't say "cleaning" because that would imply I ended with a clean house). I really miss my place when I'm not here much, and it felt so good to just hang out in my space while
someotherguy worked. Felt like home. Then I went to the Berkeley Bowl for party stuff -- tons of eggplant, a watermelon we never ate, pounds and pounds of spaghetti, etc.
Once I got home, I cooked and puttered some more until folks showed up, and then I had such a good evening surrounded by friends. In attendance, said the name-dropper, were
loracs,
golden_c_turtle &
kamtraub,
7patches &
the_ogre,
wild_irises &
alanbostick, and the residents of this here place. Much food was consumed. Much discussion over semantics and politics and what-have-you was had. Much laughing was done.
golden_c_turtle and I continued our holy war.
wild_irises got the award for funniest mean-spirited comment (and if you know me, you know that's a compliment).
7patches got on a tear, and was a marvel to see -- she's usually very quiet in my experience.
loracs did some dishes so I wouldn't be overwhelmed. I ate my weight in figs and gummy body parts. And much more.
After the party,
someotherguy washed every last dish and cleaned up the apartment, so this morning I awoke to a clean house and a warm, happy feeling. Perfect way to feel before going on my birthday date with
stonebender, which I imagine will be any time now.
Oh, and presents! I got lots of presents. Thanks, everyone. I love presents. :-) Maybe I'll make a separate post about them later.
