Last night was *wonderful*. This reading, though it stays small, attracts the most interesting and enthusiastic poets, writers, and listeners. The non-reading customers were louder than usual, but the intrepid spoken-word geeks soldiered on.

Thanks ever so to:

the always gorgeous wordlover [livejournal.com profile] klwalton,

the never-forgettable [livejournal.com profile] eeyore_grrl,

the fun and steadfast [livejournal.com profile] ptigris, whose idea the prizes were, and they've become a real hit,

the clever raconteur [livejournal.com profile] catzen,

the incisive and sub-rosa-witty T (who may or may not have an LJ, but if so I don't know the user name),

the consummate performer Christopher,

the ever-hot-and-lyrical M (barista extraordinaire, bagel purveyor, cleaner-up-after of inconsiderate crumb-leavers),

the earnest hip-hoppy N (newly extraordinaire barista, and former spoken-word virgin),

my lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] sogwife,

and our adorable audience, which included M (was it M? or J? -- I know it had a double letter in it, help me out here) and [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy, along with a cute little kid who kept saying "That's not nice" when we used profanity.

In other news, my boss at Ikea called today. He wonders if I would mind, since he hasn't been able to hire a coordinator since ours left a couple of months ago, working weekends for another six weeks or so. I had offered to work weekends to begin with, and he said no, and then I moved on with my life and the eight-day countdown. I don't want to work the Christmas season at Ikea. I especially don't want to hear the Christmas *muzak* at Ikea. I'm not 100% sure of this decision, but at this moment, I'm, pretty sure I'm saying no. I don't need the tiny bit of extra income enough to give up every weekend to Ikea Christmas Madness.

In other other news, had a lovely day. Spent a short but gratifying morning/afternoon with [livejournal.com profile] stonebender. Learned what's up with the Ed Roberts Campus (Guy thinks I might be bored by the political intrigue, but I'm so not), and saw that Gilly-the-dog is doing better, which eased some worry for me. Then the plan was to come home and go shopping and do laundry, but [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy and I ended up going xmas shopping and walking instead, which was just as useful. Walked from home to Rockridge, ate a lambburger, shopped some, got something fun for [livejournal.com profile] stonebender. BARTed to downtown Berkeley, shopped some more, and ordered the Weetzie-Bat books for one of the niblings. Got a cool, cheap book for [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy, and a couple of ninety-nine-cent books for myself -- an Alice Walker and one by Armistead Maupin. Walked home from downtown Berkeley. Total of around 4 miles (3.6 according to google maps, but we backtracked a little for dinner), and I really liked it. I don't walk enough when I'm so busy.

Only downside of the night was that I accidentally paid a bill out of the wrong account. They paid it, but it overdrew me, so now I have to transfer money over and I'll have a fee to pay. A drag, but it only bummed me out for a few minutes. Hard to sustain a bummer when you have such a happy day to view it from.

Wow. Steadfast. Always admired steadfast-ness from the day I heard the tale of the Steadfast Tin Soldier. Happy and honored to know someone (wonderful) thinks of me as such.

Cool.

Glad the reading was a success. Had we not been so sick we would have joined you all.

Which Alice Walker? I was recently blown away by "The Temple of My Familiar", so I'm looking for recommendations.

I'm glad that the readings are working out!

Maybe

Maybe you could do every other weekend at Ikea or maybe just one of the weekend days. Ya know, enough to keep the discount and get a tiny bit of extra cash for the holidays but still allow you the free time you deserve.

You have the upper hand, they need you. A counter offer is definitely within reason. :)

Yep!

Hmmm political intrigue? Probably more like family squabbles :-) and we are very happy that the Gilly girl is okay too.

shopped some, got something fun for [personal profile] stonebender.

Oooh!
