Me, to myself:

"It would be fun to do an open-house thingy again."

"You're burned out and you have a novel to write. You don't need any more
social commitments right now."

"Yeah, but maybe a clothing exchange party?"

"You're burned out and you have a novel to write. You don't need any more
social commitments right now."

"Or maybe a monthly dinner party."

"You're burned out and you have a novel to write. You don't need any more
social commitments right now."

"Ooh, what would be *really* cool is to have a different monthly event
every week, on a rotating basis, and..."

"Listen, fuckwit. You're burned out and you have a novel to write. You
don't need any more social commitments right now."

It seems completely clear to me that some part of you does need more social commitments right now. You may not want to let that part run the decision-making, and at the same time I advise against calling it a fuckwit, or treating it like it doesn't exist.

'twas mainly in jest. I am amused by my inner three-year-old, and it knows I'm being affectionate when I call it a fuckwit. :-)

Well, if you felt like co-hosting any of these social things at our house, let's talk. It might make it a little less stressful. Or it might not, depending on the travel stuff. Of course, [livejournal.com profile] stonebender might have a take on this too. He's just getting up. Then we're off, he to Berkeley and me to work.

I think what I was jokingly getting at is that I just need a break from social stuff for a while, no matter how good it might sound (hanging out with family excepted, of course).
