What was the first song you ever heard by 6? Transit

What is your favorite album of 8? Hotel California

What is your favorite lyric that 5 has sung?

Well, I'll be damned, here comes your ghost again
But that's not unusual
It's just that the moon is full
And you happened to call

And here I sit, hand on the telephone
Hearing a voice I'd known
A couple of light-years ago
Heading straight for a fall

As I remember your eyes were bluer than robins' eggs
My poetry was lousy, you said
Where are you calling from?
A booth in the midwest

Ten years ago, I had bought you some cufflinks
You brought me something
We both know what mem'ries can bring
They bring diamonds and rust[...]

How many times have you seen 4 live? None

What's your favorite song of 7? 'Round Here

What is a good memory you have considering the music of 10? Road trips with cute-poet-chick, arm around her shoulder, singing "Fast Car"

Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad? Almost all of them, especially all of the "Traffic From Paradise" album, because it makes me think of cute-poet-chick

What is your favorite lyric that 2 has sung?

I am not much of a joiner, she says,
That's not where I draw my strength
Some of them go for the depth of field while
Most of them go for the length
Me, I will go for the hard combination
'Cause I have some need to belong
I'm leaving this unkind of sign life behind me
I'll take what is mine and be gone

What is your favorite song by 9? "Monopoly"

How did you get into 3? I liked "Chuck E.'s in Love" in high school, but other than that, I was really unaware of her until I met cute-poet-chick, who introduced me to a lot of my current favorites.

What was the first song you heard by 1? Oh, god, I have no idea.

What is your favorite song by 4? It changes all the time, but right now, probably "Carey".

How many time have you seen 9 live? Twice.

What is a good memory you have concerning 2? Leaving a note for him on his music stand at a concert. The note was about [livejournal.com profile] elisem, an old friend of his, and it flustered him so much it took him a minute to get back on track.

Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad? The Last Resort

What is your favorite lyric that 3 has sung?

A monk with a hard-on in a lavendar robe
That scratches his thigh for the height that he strolls
As he follows a path filled with arid desire
That mimics his footsteps and sets his prayers on fire

I, too, have chosen that which left no choice
To sing without loving (my/in a) solitary voice
To observe with passion each careful denial
The protrusions which give my life meaning for a while

What is your favorite song of 1? These are hard. Right now, let's say "Cara Mia", but I have SO many favorites

1. Tom Waits
2. Bob Dylan
3. Esquivel
4. Leon Redbone
5. Mel Torme
6. Charles Mingus
7. Charlie Parker
8. Jimmy Smith
9. The Clash
10. The Beatles

So do I post this or look at the rest first... I'll look at the rest first, I reckon.

Oh okay.

I totally don't remember the first Mingus tune I ever heard. I don't even remember the first album I bought. I remember that it was outtakes or jam sessions or something... Or maybe that's a different album. I dunno.

No Wait! The first things I ever heard of his were performed by a band led by his widow who is still alive. They did a whole thing on her on NPR back in the 90's. I don't remember what songs though.

My Favorite Jimmy Smith album is The Sermon. Really though of his older stuff, the album doesn't matter much. It's all quality B-3 Jams.

Favorite Mel Torme lyric? Except for the christmas song, all of my favorites of his are classics that he hasn't written.

My Favorite Charlie Parker song is either Tico Tico or Little Brown Shoes. Oh but Loverman is good too as is Laura. He didn't write any of those though. That's the problem with Jazz many of the great composers aren't the great players.

Good Beatles memory? We used to regularly dance like idiots to the second side of Abbey Road at every gathering in High School. Once in a band when we were playing Hey Bulldog, a bulldog broke into our practice space. Which was pretty good too.

A Sad Esquivel song?!?!? Impossible!

A favorite Dylan lyric? That depends on the time in life. There's nearly always one that's appropriate. Right about now I guess it would be

"Ill let you be in my dream if I can be in yours... I said that"

Favorite Clash Song? Lost in the Supermarket. Garageland. Know your rights.

How did you get into Esquivel? Poe's song on Loungapalooza led me to the Combustible Edison which leads to Esquivel. Also all those years of cartoon watching probably had something to do with it too.

What was the first song you heard by Tom Waits? I know the first album because I got hooked when my dad did when I was six or seven. It was Foreign Affair but I don't know which the first song was because my dad had the tape in the car all the time.

What is your favorite song by Leon Redbone? I want to be seduced.

How many time have you seen 9 live? Never. I'm too young for that to have been remotely feasible.

What is a good memory you have concerning Dylan? Seeing him at Northwestern the first time.

Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad? no.

What is your favorite lyric that esquivel has sung? "Wow Too much of a girl! That's almost the extent of the lyrics and one of the very few that he actually sings on.

I screwed up on this whole thing, my one and two were Elvis Costello and Fats Waller but when I went back to number them, I started at three and added the clash and beatles at the end. oops.

My poetry was lousy, you said

When I saw her here back in 2002, she added something like "... YOU JERK!" onto that line -- the audience got quite a kick out of that.
