How life is:
Life is... better than it feels lately? That is, some things are bad, but most things are good -- that said, things are irritating and bothering me in ways that they don't usually. It may be lack of sleep from some annoying medication side effects. It may just be winter doldrums or something. I have confidence it will pass, and I truly have the best job in the world, so being back at that is helpful, along with really having just the best family and friends I could imagine.
List five things you'd like to accomplish by the end of the year.
I'd LIKE to cure cancer, starting with my own family's, but if I can't do that, then I'd like to:
- keep getting better at my job so that it's even easier and more fun
- learn more piano
- continue to find ways to live on a part-time income
- learn more guitar
- learn to make injera
List five people you've lost contact with that you'd like to hear from again.
- Hmm. I haven't exactly lost contact with TOTGA, but I like hearing from him, and it doesn't happen often. I understand why it doesn't, but it would still be nice. (He is probably reading this, so let me just say I'm not upset about it or anything; mostly, as always, I just miss my friend.)
- Cute-poet-chick. I haven't heard from her for years. Facebook keeps suggesting her to me as a friend, but she made it pretty clear she didn't want contact with me after I moved away, so I just let it be.
- Can't think of anyone else right now.
List five things you'd like to learn how to do.
- Purl
- fix my knitting errors without pulling out rows of stitches
- play the guitar
- play the piano
- make a reliable sourdough
List five things you'd do if you won the lottery (no limit)
My geek brain says "Well, there has to be a limit or you couldn't win that much at the lottery, but I'll play:
- Pay off my mother's house
- Give my mother enough money to do whatever she wanted without working for money
- Get the kids whatever job training and/or schooling they choose
- Buy the house we live in and the apartments behind it
- Hire a management company to do the upkeep on #s 1 & 4
List five things you do that help you relax
- Take a walk
- Take a nap
- Read a good book
- Cook
- Talk out my problems with someone willing to listen -- they don't have to listen *closely*, just pay a modicum of attention while I work things out
Do you like to shop? Why or why not?
I love to food shop. I like to do other kinds of shopping when I'm in the mood and have a little money.
What was the last thing you purchased?
Half-dozen falafel and half-dozen dolmas. Total charge: $3.30.
Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
I prefer shopping at a store. I like to look at things before I buy them, I hate paying for shipping, and I like serendipitous purchases.
Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?
I remember when the price of a Nancy Drew book went up from $2 to $2.25, because that's when I asked my mom to increase my allowance from $2 to $2.25. Then I remember getting $20 a week in high school, but that had to cover my lunch and all incidentals.
What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
The cantaloupe at lunch. Cut cantaloupe in the winter was a bad idea from the start, and oy, that was bad.
What food do you like that most people hate?
Canned herring, anchovies on pizza. Buttermilk as a beverage.
What food do you hate that most people love?
Tangerines. Cinnamon. Cumin.
What famous person, whom many people may find attractive, is most unappealing to you?
Gosh, I don't know, but I don't feel comfortable calling people ugly or unappealing, so I'm going to skip this one.
What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find attractive.
Hmm. I guess you could name any fat actor. I find fat people, in general, attractive, and a lot of people think that automatically makes someone ugly.
What popular trend baffles you?
Twitter.
Do you make New Year's (or any other kind of) resolutions?
I love love love Mary's answer to this, so I'm taking it: "Not really. Now and then I sort of look at an area I'd like to focus on [...] but not *with resolve*. It's more like just awareness or attention." And I answered this somewhere else with my own words: "I don't make resolutions, but sometimes I use dates (my birthday, the new year, an anniversary, the first day of a week or month) to try out something new or return to something that worked before. Example is my current begun-on-Jan.-1 bout of veganism. It's not exactly a resolution, because I won't feel like a failure if I stop doing it or anything, but it's something new to shake up my rut."
Any questions or anything? I can answer in future posts. I don't expect to be doing anything tomorrow but lying around.
