My Organic CSA box people have a
pickup location five blocks from my house [Edit: Pickup is on Wednesday,
from 2pm-8pm]
, but it may be discontinued if they don't get more customers
for that location. Just in case any of you locals were thinking about getting yummy
organic veggies and fruits (Ranier cherries!) for the summer, you might wanna check it
out
. Alternatively, if you don't live nearby and want to order a box
for me to either eat or donate to a local family (yes, I have one in
mind), that would work, too. ;-) Right now, they have five boxes being
picked up there weekly, and they need ten to stay viable as a location.

(To tell the truth, if I can't pick up my produce within walking distance,
I will probably switch to somewhere that *does* deliver close to me, so
this is not so much an act of undying loyalty as a PSA -- they have good
stuff, and it's only $23 a box.)

What's the time/day for that pickup?

Oh, duh, I should've added that. I will in a sec (typo: sex). Wednesdays between 2 and 8.

My CSA setup is completely different.

Our farmer delivers the food in big bins to the dropoff place (a church with a large courtyard. The church runs a food pantry which gets the leftovers). Members unload the truck, arrange the bins in the courtyard, and sign people in. We each work 3 hours during the 6 months. When we pick up our veggies, we take our own bags and we pick up as many of each item as we are entitled to, according to a sign. We can trade unwanted items by putting them in a trading bin. One time last year, I managed, through clever trading, to take home a triple share of collard greens.

My first pickup is next week. Yay!

I hope you get enough members for this pickup point.

There's a trade bin for our pickup point, too. With the half-hour-per-month of work that you do, what do they charge you for the box?

It's $468 (paid in the spring) for 25 pickups. If I didn't want to work, I could pay an extra $75.

We don't get boxes. We bring our own bags and fill them up.

I have been delighted with the harvest the last three years. The season starts lightly, but by August, it's hard to eat everything in one week. This year, I'll be sharing it with J. Fortunately, my pickup day is one of my scheduled days in the city.

I just checked my farm's website. My pickup point is full up this year! Woo-hoo!
