Oh, and I finally got my community garden plot! I go to see it this week, and then look out!

The weather is finally starting to feel summerish (it's late this year, at least later than I remember as a kid, but that seems to be the trend in recent years) We'll be okay for summer bearing crops if we plant starts, and fall/winter crops from seed (like pumpkins and winter squash) will be okay if we sow them soon. Careful placement and watering, as well as staggering planting, might get us a little bit of cooler weather produce like lettuce.

I've never heard of lettuce being referred to as "cooler weather produce" before - it's a high-summer crop here. But then I suppose you're a lot further south than England...

Yep, our summers usually get hot enough to encourage lettuce to bolt quickly. Great for collecting seed for next year's sowing, not so great for this year's flavor.

Although, we'll have to see what the climate is like this near the bay and ocean. I'm used to slightly more northern, but much more inland climes. Hmmm....
