1) Feeling a bit better. Prescription: comfort food, lots of rest, and good sex.

2) Beef stroganoff-y thing in the slowcooker. No recipe, I just kinda winged it. I'll let you know.

3) Caucasia is a really good book. Gonna finish it tonight, probably.

4) So annoyed. I've had the first season of "Twin Peaks" at home from Netflix for a couple of weeks, and I finally got around to popping it in the DVD player. First: "Previously on Twin Peaks..." WTF? I checked the disk, and it's disk 1 of Season One, but "Two-hour pilot episode not included." Grrrrrr. Send it back, get the pilot, but still. Grr. I've never seen a single episode, so I want to start at the beginning! [Edit: Netflix doesn't have the pilot! Grr!]

Do you have an online space large enough to accept it digitally? I could FTP it.

You realize of course that to really start at the beginning you'd have to watch the prequel but don't worry no matter how much you don't miss, it still won't really make sense unless you just sort of let it happen to you. It's like zen. you can't try to get it you just have to not try to get it and then it makes perfect sense.

I'm with ScreenSelect, and am currently annoyed to find that they don't label double-sided disks. A couple of weeks ago I had Without A Trace, Season 1, Disk 1, and watched episodes one through three. I just got Disk 2, which is episodes seven through 9. I went WTF?, then got that sinking feeling as I realized. Double-sided disk. I'd sent the first one back, having only watched half of the episodes on it. Grrrr.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll just rent it at the video store. (And what was your OKCupid question?)

The whole story of the release of Twin Peaks is just one fiasco after another. Yes, you definitely want to see the pilot first, but something about licensing meant that the pilot was owned by a different company from the rest of the episodes, and so it just didn't get included in the season 1 box set. There's nothing on the box set to indicate this to the buyer, and there's still no legal way, as far as I know, to buy the pilot. You either have to find it on VHS or buy an Asian DVD from eBay or something.

And season 1 ends in this horrible cliffhanger spot, and after YEARS they STILL haven't released season 2 on DVD. I heard that it's finally supposed to come out in Australia this year, which means that maybe it will eventually become available in the US too, but you'll get all sucked into season 1 and then get left off at this frustrating point. Season 1 is only a partial season, so season 2 is a lot longer and has most of the activity and resolution in it.

I LOVE the series but haven't watched it in years because it's so frustrating knowing I can only get a little way in and then can't watch the rest of it. Maybe at least you're getting into it at the right time, since there's a chance that maybe we'll see season 2 sometime soon, finally.

I never wrote one, that was the rub. I just wanted the freedom to do so, thinking I'd come up with something. Do you have one?

With all this hullaballoo, I think maybe I'll just wait until it comes out, and not bother until then. Thanks for the backstory -- it's fascinating!

i hear that the pilot gives some of the stuff away, so beware. :)

I think they (the asshats who produce the things) have successfully squelched my desire to see the show. Maybe in a couple of years when everything is out on DVD.

Season 2 is not exactly hard to find on VHS, y'know. Does nobody own a VCR any more?

I have one, but until I find the pilot *and* the VHS in a place I can rent them...

...y'know, to be honest, I had only a scant interest in it to start with, and this all feels like just too much fuss to me. :-)

Well, if you change your mind, they probably still have the pilot and both seasons at Reel on Shattuck.
