Well, first I had to go to google and see where I first encountered you. We exchanged some threads as early as 2001 but I didn't really get to know you as a familiar name on the screen until you became active in SSG again in 2005. But my reaction in 2001 was pretty much the same as it is now - pure jealousy. :)

My first impression was: Who in the hell is yelling they know my truck! Remember that at Portero War a few years ago? That was sooooo funny!

On The List? That you were gloriously opinionated and strong and kind.

In person? That you have one of the loveliest voices I've ever heard, and a smile to stop wars.

*giggles*

The words "Super hostess" come to mind. I think you were abit nervous meeting me and abit too caffeinated but I could be wrong.
Still lovely and welcoming!

I don't tend to remember impressions before the current one, but I have *some* recollection of at first thinking you were aloof. That may be as much a reflection of my own axiety at the time as anything else, though.

Nah, probably accurate, if not intentional. New social situations make me so anxious that I usually slip back and do the people-watching thing.

(Musing: Maybe this is why several of my friends have lots of first-meeting con sex and I never do. ;-)

Having never had con sex with someone with whom I was not already a patner, I have no real input on the musing. :) I've heard lots of folks talk about con sex and never really grokked how you went from, "We're at this con together," to, "We're having sex." However, alt.polycon is the only con I've been to so far, so given the size and qualitative differences that I gather exist between it and most cons, I've not really considered myself to be working from good information. I'll be going to Wiscon next year, though.

I'm planning to be at Wiscon, too. I'm not all that interested in con sex (or, really, cons -- I've been to two alt.polycons and part of a Potlatch), but many of my favorite people will be there, and they've finally convinced me, after years of cajoling, that I don't have to be a hard-core science fiction fan to enjoy Wiscon. We shall see.

:) I've not been interested in *having* con sex, but I have to admit that I'm curious as to how it comes about -- about the social elements that seem to make it possible and prevalent, especially often for people who have trouble with these sorts of things outside of the con environment.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] darkmagess has often been sort of alone amongst her social circle. She doesn't know that many people who share her interests, and she *is* a philosopher, a feminist and a sci-fi geek. A bunch of people had been talking to me about how great Wiscon is, and I mentioned it to her as somewhere where she might be able to go and feel more "among her people". She's never been to a con before, though, and felt kind of intimidated about going to one on her own where she wouldn't know anybody, so I said I'd go with her and that there are a bunch of people I know who would be there. [livejournal.com profile] okoshun was curious too, it turns out, so the three of us are going to go.

Hostess with the mostess. You have never done anything that changes that first impression a whit. xox

Fun! You're a good friend.

(That people-watching thing I do bleeds into being really curious about how people who are good with social interaction manage it. I can't personally imagine actually getting to the point of having sex with someone I just met that day, but it's fascinating to ponder the ways in which that makes me different from lots of my friends.)

My first impression on meeting you was that you are good at entertaining my daughter. She really warmed up to you quickly because she likes people who do silly things.
