What's the opposite of the home stretch?
Jul. 30th, 2006 01:27 amThe starting gate, I guess, huh?
Anyway, most of the non-clothing stuff is packed. I'm taking a small rolling suitcase and a carryon backpack, along with my purse. More than I usually pack, but still not much for such a long trip, and it would be less, but I opted to take actual books rather than mp3s (despite
stonebender and
loracs's incredibly generous offer to buy me an iPod), so the backpack is mostly full of books, both to read and to write in, as well as stationery. My purse will hold normal purse-y things and some food. It's interesting to me to see what I am taking that I normally don't bother with -- like a first-aid kit.
Books I've packed:
Several trashy murder mysteries (Sandford, Connelly, maybe another one or two);
final_girl's graphic novel (yay, it came in time!); The Poet's Companion; The Writer's Toolbox; The Copyeditor's Handbook; The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam; something by Margaret Atwood whose name I've forgotten; Toni Morrison's Jazz
Tomorrow comes the choosing of the clothing, and some serious housecleaning. Anyone who wants to come keep me company is welcome -- it's my last chance for social contact before I leave. We're not having a party or anything, but if you want to stop by, please do, especially if you are either indifferent or amused at the thought of how incredibly messy I've let my house get while I've been working full-time to afford this trip. :-) Dinner will be around 7pm.
