I didn't even break the seal on my new writing journals. Nor did I read a page of the three writing books I took. And only a handful of the hundred people (no exaggeration) who asked for postcards got them.

All of which is to say that this trip didn't give me much time (and I didn't have much inclination) for writing, so this is the first time I've written about the experience short of the postcards and letters I did get around to sending.

The short version is that I am glad I went, and really glad to be home. The longer version feels like it may come out in trickles.

Some random things:

* Boy howdy, them Japanese folks sure do like their sweet red bean paste.

* Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] wild_irises -- was it you who told me to say "Sumimasen" a really lot?

* If I exhibit half the serenity and grace the participants did (eleven of them, aged 19-24, with various disabilities), I'm in good shape.

* Traveling is a pain in the ass no matter who you are or how able your body is.

* I love my bed. I mean, I love the people I share it with, too, but I so fucking love my fucking BED.

It was me who suggested "sumimasen," and I find it can be all you need.

Yes travel does make you appreciate home more for sure. I have done that several times where I take things with me thinking I will have time to do something with them and never have taken them out of the package. Yes I work with several women from Japan and they are the sweetest most generous people I have ever worked with. Glad you are back can't wait to hear more on the adventure!

What does "sumimasen" mean?

Basically, "Excuse me," "Pardon me," and "I apologize in advance if I'm even the slightest bother to you, it won't happen again."

Missed you at Thursday Rockridge prac. I was hoping you'd show up on a whim.

Not sure about future practices, school about to start and my schedule is up in the air.

I bought some postcards when I was in Seattle but didn't manage to send any of them (yet, anyway) -- typical!

I find a lot of travel very draining, but along the lines of the introvert/extrovert discussions, I get the idea that there are some people out there who find it energizing, in fact I'm thinking of one person in particular who just loves road trips.

Travel definitely drains me. I think that it does depend a lot on my traveling companions, though -- certain people make it easier on me, and others make it harder. Mostly, though, traveling is the cost I pay for having been someplace new and/or interesting. If I could do that without the actual travel, I'd love it. (I do like road trips, but mostly for the one-on-one social time they usually mean for me -- cute-poet-chick and I were great roadtrip companions, as are [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy and I.)
