I'm completely over the whole parental heart-trouble thing, okay?

(Mom had a pacemaker put in in July; Dad just had angioplasty. Stop it!)

(And yes, I know how VERY lucky I am that they're both still kicking. Still. Stop it!)

Thank you, darling. On all counts.

If you want it, you may have it. I made it my ownself.

(When I give away one of my own icons, I stop using it to avoid confusion. this one (http://www.livejournal.com/userpic/25887564/104981) is a favorite that I gave to [livejournal.com profile] dryadgrl.)

mary cheney, jenna bush, barbara bush.

i must say that i have spent a few hours in the waiting room for the cardiac icu of one of the local hospitals thinking bitterly about how many angioplasties dick cheney has had and how they've all gone just fine.

My mom had 4 brothers and 2 sisters, then her father died of a heart attack at age 48. Her mother remarried had 2 more boys. Her mother died in her 60’s. All of my mother’s brothers died at 49 or 50 except one; he had open-heart surgery at 40 and lived to be 60. One sister died around 62 from a rare form of lung cancer. My mother died 4 months after her 50th birthday. My dad lived to be 90. His dad had made it to 89. His mom died at 40 from breast cancer. I have one brother and one sister and a half sister still living. My sister Karen always said she would die like Momma, only before she was 50, Karen died at age 49 and was buried on her 50th birthday. I often wonder whose genes I got and in which combination. I’ll be 55 in November, older than my mother ever was. Still, I’d rather die at 50 than live until 90. Old age was brutal on my dad`. After 80, when he had to stop driving, he’d just as soon not be here.
