From the [livejournal.com profile] altfriday5:

1. How dirty is your dwelling right now? How messy is it?

The floor is dirty. The toilet needs cleaning. There's a little mildew in the molding of the sink and tub. That's the dirt. The rest is a little messy, but not terribly. I will have it cleaned up within the next hour or so.

2. Which part of your dwelling does it drive you crazy to have dirty or messy? Why?

The kitchen, especially the island. I think the whole house looks dirty then, and I hate cooking in a dirty kitchen, so when the kitchen's dirty, I either don't cook, or I cook and hate it. So I try to at least keep the kitchen clean.

3. Which part of your dwelling does it not drive you crazy to have dirty or messy? Why?

I don't care much about the storeroom -- [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy takes care of that for the most part.

4. Have you ever gotten into conflicts with dwelling-mates over cleanliness? Which side were you on (i.e., "clean freak" or "slob"?) How was it resolved (if at all)?

I was the slob in my former live-in relationship. I did a lot of passive-aggressive not-cleaning because I felt pressured. I am the clean freak in this relationship, but I try not to spill it on everyone. Too much.

5. What inspires you to clean? What makes it harder? Why?

The FlyLady is irritatingly saccharine (and recently obsessed with "eliminating body clutter" aka dieting), but her routines do help me get a handle on my cleaning. If I always had as much physical energy as I do desire to have a clean house, it would be immaculate.

I'd be much more receptive to FlyLady if she turned down the saccharine and "Bwessings!" for sure. And I am not shining my fricking sink.

I really *wanted* to do Fly Lady, but I wish there was an option to receive about 1/4 of the mails she sends. Deleting them without reading them was adding to my burden of things I feel like I should be doing, but am not, so I had to unsubscribe.

She makes it really clear that one's job in the first month or more is just to declutter 15 minutes a day and glance at the subject lines while deleting the emails. I would have drowned in email without that advice.

I probably did see that advice, but realizing the kinds of personalities* she could be dealing with, I think mail you aren't supposed to read is kind of counterproductive.
(* speaking for myself, subject to bouts of reading addiction, a little obsessive compulsion, poor impulse control, as well as forgetfulness)

Yeah, funnily enough the sink was what sunk her for me too. Maybe she should have advised me to shine the dog bowls.

Shining the sink totally works for me as a "this is one thing I can do to completion no matter how bad my kitchen is".

(Those who know me will know that I have no investment in making people like FlyLady -- just geeking about why it is helpful for me.)
