I crave that scarf! I'm looking for some kind of DIY activity... and you've just nudged me toward picking up the knitting needles I borrowed from a friend a few years ago. The only knitting I've ever done was with a machine that I was given as an adolescent, with which I produced a shoulder bag and a couple of scarves before I lost interest and discovered sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. (It was the 70s, after all.)

I recommend the Stitch N Bitch book and a friend who's willing to show you how to cast on (the casting-on method in the book seems overly complicated to me, and wild_irises' method is much much easier.
