Dr. appointment today. All my numbers are nearly perfect, except for a slightly elevated triglyceride level. Oh, and C-reactive protein, but that's not as high as it was last time, so it's headed in the right direction. Blood pressure 120/80 or so; not anemic any more; etc.

He thinks the weird neurological-feeling symptoms are anxiety attacks. I will be pondering what to do about that, but he'll also want to hear from me if they get worse or change, or whatever.

When he found out I've got insurance now, he got all happy and relieved, because he can run some tests on me that I wouldn't be able to afford otherwise. I'm currently wearing a heart monitor (my in-office EKG was fine, but he wants to check on the palpitations, which have gotten worse lately). I'll be going for a stress test, a mammogram, x-rays of my hips (again), visits with a thyroid person and an ophthalmologist, and some more blood tests. He's writing me a prescription for my favored birth-control pill.

*And* when I gave him the newest study on how dieting doesn't work, he listened more than he usually does. I still may fire him after my newest tests come back, but I felt okay about being the body-acceptance poster child today.

I feel better already.

Get 'em while you can! So glad you have insurance!!

I know what you mean about being the body-acceptance poster child. My numbers are not so good. I haven't been tested recently, but they've all been borderline problematic, do I don't feel quite so secure in my position about not dieting (except that I know that dieting will make all those problems worse.

Congratulations!

Have you described your symptoms in more detail in a previous entry? I ask because from what you say here, they sound a whole lot like symptoms of mine - at various moments for no apparent reason, my heart starts pounding, the room starts going dark, and I collapse into the nearest chair or wall or anything that will help hold me up, though I never actually lose consciousness. I went through a whole bunch of tests as a teenager for it, including wearing a heart monitor everywhere I went. The eventual conclusion was that it didn't seem to be anything serious but that they still didn't know what it was. I've found that not drinking enough water and not having eaten anything recently enough both seem to cause it, but I'm not sure that either of them is the cause in all cases.

on another note, i think anxiety attacks should be outlawed. what with yada yada yada bunny puppy whine whine whine about nothing much particularly awful in my life going on with me, i am currently having a low level anxiety thing going on. i think this is related to not knowing enough people at the new job yet, and not yet being quite sure what i'm doing. also, due to hormones and the part where my period started today. so, she says firmly, i am certain it'll stop soon. damn well better, anyhow. ;)

i hope they stop or become less frequent for you. anxiety is *reeeally* unpleasant feeling.

Uh-huh. Makes it even harder to get straight-talk from medics, too.

I hope you are OK and glad that the CRP is going down. S.'s was elevated right after birth, then went pretty high, which is why he wound up in the NICU (in his case it was possible menegitis or a blood infection--he had neither). I am not sure what it could be in an adult.

Take care of yourself.

Just like in S, it indicates an infection. Recent studies show a correlation with high CRP and atherosclerotic disease. Mine had been high and my Dr. told me to take the low dose aspirin once a day. I've been doing that for a few years and my CRP has been normal. So in addition to keeping the blood a little thinner, aspirin might also help fight heart disease by keeping low level infections down.

In an adult, it could be a marker for future blood vessel problems, or for cancer. Basically, it says the body's involved in some inflammation-fighting.
