Jimmy Carter is going to be speaking on campus. Since I'm now officially a campus employee, I was able to put my name in for the lottery to get a ticket to hear him speak. Oh, wish wish wish hope hope hope.
When he was running for President, the college I was at (Southern Illinois University-Carbondale) was on his campaign schedule. He spoke outside on a grassy area near a big parking deck. People were hanging out all over the parking structure, the trees, anywhere to see him. I spent the entire time photography the crowd. My favorite picture; a man, probably in his 80's, sitting on a curb with his back to the stage, a forest of blue jean clad legs around him while he smoked a cigar. Funny I don't remember a thing the president-to-be said, just that old man enjoying a smoke in the sun.
Hope you get to see him. I do believe he was one of our smartest presidents.
