751-800 of 5,000
Jun. 17th, 2007 12:55 pmOnce again, I'll delete the ones I don't feel like answering. You can get this batch (without my deletions) at http://opendiary.com/entryview.asp?authorcode=D133099&entry=10017&mode=date
751. What causes you to panic?
Mostly obvious stuff -- if one of the Munchkins is in danger; if someone's bleeding uncontrollably, stuff like that. I had PTSD after I was attacked, and had a few random panic attacks back then, but it's been years.
752. Do you believe that you have a strong personality?
Yes. And nowadays I like that about myself, but it used to bother me a lot. I got told to be quiet a lot as a kid, and I parsed that as "enthusiasm is bad and annoying". Turns out my mom just really doesn't like kids much, so it wasn't anything I was doing wrong.
754. What resolutions would you make if it were new years?
I don't tend to do New Year's resolutions, but I seem to always be trying to improve certain things in my life. I try to interrupt people less; I try to be better with money; I try to treat my body well. Stuff like that.
756. Do you feel like time is on your side or working against you?
It's gonna get us all in the end.
757. What do you do for yourself when you are down to put a little joy back into your life?
Get time alone. Get time with
someotherguy. Eat well. Take a walk.
758. How much Tolkien have you read?
I read The Hobbit and about half of The Fellowship of the Ring
759. These are the songs on the radio. Which are you most likely to listen to:
Time Bomb by Rancid
Dead Man's party by Oingo Boingo
The Sun Always Shines on TV by A-ha
50 Ways to leave Your Lover by Paul Simon
Run by collective Soul
I adore Paul Simon, so I always can listen to him. I also like Oingo Boingo. I don't really listen to any of the others.
760. Do you believe that Jesus existed as a real person?
I've seen evidence to the contrary, but at this point, I don't think the answer to that question is that important. I think he probably did not, but even if he did, he certainly didn't do the things people attribute to him.
761. Do you believe he was the son of god?
No.
762. How do you feel about organized religion?
I think that, in general, it's a net evil in the world.
763. What sentence have you heard lately, that would sound pretty odd out of context?
Dunno. This is a fun question, but I can't think of things like that on the spot.
763. If you had to choose one image to be a symbol of our times, what would you pick?

766. Do you like the movie The Labyrinth with David Bowie and some muppets?
I think I liked it fine, but it's been a long time.
767. Do you like the movie The Dark Crystal?
Yes.
768. Metallica or Guns N' Roses?
Neither.
769. Do you follow the Chinese zodiac?
Nope.
770. Do you like reggae music?
I like it some, but I don't seek it out.
771. What makes your life worth it every day?
I do, of course. :-) But really, it's joy. I get such joy out of the big and little things in my life. I share my life with some wonderful people, get to do interesting (to me) things, and get lots of time to examine my inner landscape. It's a good life.
772. Do you seize each day and sink your teeth into it?
Nope. I am gentler with my days than that.
773. I’ve heard people say that Jim Morrison never yawned because he was just so full of life. How often do you yawn?
Oh, shit, all the time. One of the true joys of life is a big yawn.
774. Who decides what behavior is 'crazy' or 'sane'?
That shifts all the time, and has too many contexts to address. When I think of what makes a person emotionally healthy, it has to do with how well they can function in society, and how likely they are to harm themselves or others, but there are so many other contexts in which to ask that question.
775. Who are the most inspiring artists, musicians, poets, and writers?
Gosh. Who knows? Some who have inspired me, though, are Audre Lorde, Emily Saliers, Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, John Gorka, Molly Ivins, Alice Walker, Laurie Anderson, Richard Shindell,
sistercoyote,
final_girl, Steve Kowit, Kim Addonizzio, Mary Oliver, Joan Baez, Adam Duritz, Nanci Griffith, John Carroll, Marge Piercy, Sharon Olds, Maya Angelou, Margaret Atwood, Raymond Carver, Beth Sherman (not the mystery writer -- my writing teacher in community college),
vito_excalibur, and so many others.
776. Did anything historically significant happen in the year you were born?
Probably. :-) Let's see. Wikipedia says the first acid test, Indira Gandhi is elected, war, war, war, John Lennon says the Beatles are more popular than Jesus, uniform Daylight Savings Time starts in North America, "Pet Sounds" is released, James Meredith is shot, the NOW is founded, and so much other stuff that my eyes started to blur.
777. Besides blowing out birthday candles when do you make wishes?
All the time, but I don't expect them to come true.
778. Are you self-sufficient?
Not on the very basic level (I don't grow my own food, for instance), but I'm good at adapting, and could survive on my own, I think, if I needed to.
779. Is it better to be wanted or needed?
Wanted.
780. What do you feel is an appropriate age to lose one’s virginity at?
Depends on the person, of course. I was 25, but earlier would've been fine.
781. Do you feel that the appropriate age for girls and for boys is different?
No.
782. Are you a hard person to get to know?
Sometimes I wonder. Because I'm such an open book about stuff like these survey questions, I sometimes think people think they know me better than they do. It's something I think about.
783. What is the craziest thing you have ever done out of anger?
Hit my kid. I'll never completely forgive myself.
784. What's the MOST annoying sound you can think of?
stonebender will probably back me up on this -- scraping the grill clean while the customers are trying to eat.
785. What's the silliest vegetable you can think of?
Fiddlehead ferns.
786. Would you believe in a love at first sight?
At first sight? No. At first encounter? Yes, I'm certain that it happens all the time.
787. Name one thing you have referred to in the past as “better than sex”:
Haagen-Dazs coffee ice cream.
788. What do you see when you turn out the light?
I can't tell you, but I know it's mine.
789. Do you like jazz, blues and/or swing music?
Yes. I especially like vocal jazz and blues. I could listen to BB King or Billie Holiday all day long, and sometimes I have.
790. Do you prefer gold or silver jewelry?
Silver, but I'm not much for jewelry in general.
791. In what ways do you want your children to be like you?
Mostly in the ways they are -- they're smart, inquisitive, accepting of other people, and compassionate. They also have finely tuned bullshit detectors, are resilient when hurt, and are generous by nature.
792. In what ways would you want your children to be different from you?
Mostly in the ways they are -- they are more forgiving than I am. Munchkin The Younger forms close friendships easily.
793. What was the scariest movie you've ever seen?
I was 7 at the time. I saw Dracula, AD 1972, and it scared the shit out of me for years. I've seen it since and it's laughable, but back then? Oh, man.
794. What was the funniest movie you've ever seen?
I don't usually do best/funniest/etc., but the movie that most reliably makes me laugh over and over and over seems to be Spinal Tap.
795. What was the worst movie you've ever seen?
Oh, man, that would be a hard call. I watch a LOT of bad movies. The other night, we saw a thing called "Warning from Space", with aliens visiting Japan in puffy star-shaped suits. They looked like the cousins of the Teletubbies, but of course with that one big eye in the center, the people ran as though Godzilla himself were after them.
796. Are you a good massage-giver?
I've been told I am.
798. Is there more to this world than human beings can perceive?
Oh, sure.
799. If matter is neither created nor destroyed then is it possible that you are made up of molecules that once made up Ghandi or Jesus or Einstein?
It's a statistical certainty.
800. Are you often sarcastic?
Yep.
751. What causes you to panic?
Mostly obvious stuff -- if one of the Munchkins is in danger; if someone's bleeding uncontrollably, stuff like that. I had PTSD after I was attacked, and had a few random panic attacks back then, but it's been years.
