Turns out I was done for the day after all. 2,104 for Day One. Not half bad.

The NaNo kit I bought a few months back has a fun motivational tool in it. It's called the Onerosity Coupon. How it works is this: I agree to do some onerous task someone chooses for me (or something they know I don't want to do) if I haven't met my word goal by a certain date. (My goal is 2,000 words per day, finishing on the 25th of November.)

Wanna play? The following dates are taken already. Check out what I have to do if I don't crack the whip on myself:

4th, [livejournal.com profile] maestrodog: I'll have to schedule a private session with a fundamental Christian minister and tell him all about my lifestyle, then listen to his responses without saying a word if I haven't hit 8,000 words by the 4th.

5th: ([livejournal.com profile] someotherguy and [livejournal.com profile] sogwife are sharing this day) I have to watch *and synopsize* a Mr. Hanky episode of South Park (ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!) and iron a metric buttload of muslin if I haven't hit 10,000 words by the 5th.

6th, [livejournal.com profile] hitchhiker: If I don't have 12,000 words by the 6th, I have to go through what I *did* write and add apostrophes to all the plurals. I don't get to change them back until NaNo is done

7th (the day before my surgery), [livejournal.com profile] stonebender: we get to go to an improv comedy show together if I don't have 14,000 words by the 7th. (Improv makes me squirm, and not in that nice way that we like.)

18th, [livejournal.com profile] golden_c_turtle: I'll have to endure Restaurant Hell with her (we'll go to a restaurant and she'll be rude to the waiters) if I don't have 36,000 words by the 18th.

Who else wants an onerosity coupon? If you comment here, either pick a date or tell me to pick, and if you want your coupon, send me your snailmail address: serene@serenepages.org

Oh, man, I'd do anything not to have the onerosity [livejournal.com profile] golden_c_turtle chose. I don't think I want a day, thanks, anyway.

The restaurant thing is a joke between us. She was cranky in a restaurant once, and I explained to her that being rude to servers is a dealbreaker for me. If someone is rude to servers, I refuse to go to restaurants with them ever again. She's been great ever since, but she still needles me for being a hardass about it. :-) I have confidence that I will get my wordcount done in time to avoid what may be the worst social nightmare I can think of.

Let's pick Sunday the 4th...and if you don't get your wordcount finished, you will have to schedule a private session with a fundamental Christian minister and tell him all about your lifestyle, then listen to his responses without saying a word.

I know what you're onerosity will be. If you don't make your 14,000 words by the seventh we get to go to an improv comedy show together. That ought put the fear and you! :)

Perhaps even more fear could be instilled with the threat of a Bad Modern Dance show, complete with bad poetry, unitards and noise masquerading as music. ;)

Pick a date, and if you haven't made quota on that day, you have to go through what you *did* write and add apostrophes to all the plurals. You don't get to change them back till NaNo is done :)

Pick a date, and if you haven't made quota on that day, get a good night's sleep and get back to plugging away on it again the next day. Or is that too extreme?

While I totally understand the usefulness of the threat tactic, I know I could never hold you to anything torturous, so I will just have to sit by and be pleased if you're pleased by your progress. How wishy washy of me.

You pick the day...

...but if you miss you're goal, I'll want you to write 20 comments, one each to each of the next 20 posts in [livejournal.com profile] polyamory.

Each comment may be warm or even smarmy, but each and every comment must be enabling.

Bonus difficulty: No posting in snark or cat communities for the interim, plus another two days for each percent you're behind your goal on the selected day.

It's still a pale shadow of the apostrophe thing. ;)
