Mom update

Mom is bleeding again, so they're not going to wait for Monday for her surgery. They're giving her a transfusion now, and her surgery is at 1pm today. I'll get to San Diego before she's out of surgery, and I'll post updates if and when I can. Thanks, everyone, for your kind words and love.

Mom's the kind of person who would love to know people are praying for her, so if you're the praying sort, that would be sweet.

[Edit: Her name is Joan Vannoy -- "Mom" is just a cutesy nickname we gave her early on.]

Thank you. Love you, too. And yeah, I indulge her fantasies about a big fellow in the sky, and she indulges my self-centered humans-made-that-shit-up fantasies. ;-)

(More seriously, she asked me yesterday about how I got from a vision of god during my near-death experience to atheism, and prefaced it with "I've always wanted to ask you this." I think she's getting ready for whatever's coming, and she wanted to really understand me if she had the chance before she dies. I know it sounds really sad, but it was kind of sweet in a not-really-all-that-sad kind of way while it was happening.)

I don't know about the big guy in the sky, but I believe in praying. It's putting energy into what you want and sending it out into the world. It's not necessarily a religious activity.
