Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] pantryslut, for the recommendation. I love it so far. The oranges are especially sweet, and one of them is three quarters of a pound! I already ate most of the pistachios; trying to save some for [livejournal.com profile] sogwife.

oranges, navel 37 oz
beets 1 lb
chard 10 oz
leeks 18 oz
carrots 17 oz
potatoes white 2 lbs
cabbage 42 oz
pistachios 8 oz

I honestly don't know if this will last the week, but we'll see. I still have some jicama, onions, lemons, garlic, and celery left from our regular shopping. If we regularly run out of produce (besides things like onions) by the end of every week, I'll up it to the bigger box.

ZOMG, what a CSA share! I'm drooling.

Looks like you have the makings of an outstanding potato/leek soup. Which you could artistically decorate with teeny beet flowers.

(In these parts they're only available June through Oct, and tomatoes are the only local fruit.)

I think I'm going to make a potato-leek soup today, but not cream-based. Good homemade chicken stock, potatoes, leeks, maybe an onion, maybe a carrot.

The Principal Cook at our house sautes the leeks in 50-50 butter and olive oil, then adds a 1/4 water to sweat the leeks. Once blended with a nice handful of spuds, it's creamier than any bisque. Deeelish.

Yum. Thanks! (1/4 = one quart?)

d'Oh

One-quarter cup of water. It gets absorbed into the leeks. Enjoy!

Sounds soooooo nice.

My housemate has taken over werk in the planter box of joy and has put in chard and some onions already. Yay for fresh veggies for everyone.

Terra Firma Farm (http://www.terrafirmafarm.com). The carrots were really crisp and carroty. The second orange was very good, but not as sweet as the first. I'm looking forward to the rest. :-)
