I really have to go to bed now, but I have a quick question for the foodies and the Irish-food-lovers out there.

I'm throwing a party for [livejournal.com profile] sogwife on the 15th (you should come!) and the food theme is Ireland. Already planning corned beef and cabbage, along with at least one potato dish and a beautiful salmon dish with capers and cream that I saw in Bon Appetit.

Other suggestions?

Surely you must not forget Irish Soda Bread!

And Irish Stew with lamb! Not to mention shamrock-shaped cookies...

Yes, the soda bread! Very easy and really yummy... I've been hankering for some this last week, time to whip up a batch.

Corned beef isn't Irish food, it's Irish-American food. But soda bread is good, as is colcannon.

Yes, I think something with lamb, like Irish Stew. I wasn't aware corned beef was considered Irish.

Only in America. My mom used to cook it every year for St. Paddy's Day.

I once had a marvellous Sunday lunch in Dublin consisting of something called boxty. I've never stumbled across a recipe for it, but it was a potato pancake wrapped around a savoury filling. Yummmmm.

i just googled "boxty recipe" and there are about a million of them. most of them that mention filling seem to agree that bacon would make a fine filling (and who could argue?).

Though tons of people already beat me to it: lamb stew. :) I enjoyed the shepherd's pie I had at Rosie's (http://www.rosiemccanns.com/santa_cruz.html), but the lamb stew was better.
