While I wait for
someotherguy to finish his shower so we can walk to the store, I'll do this survey I stole from
autographedcat:
1. Did you date someone from your school?
Nope. The one person who asked me for a date when I was in high school was in his 20s and I was maybe 13 years old, so I of course said no. I wonder sometimes about that. He was a really nice guy.
2. Did you win anything in Seniors Who's Who?
I assume this is that "Prettiest Hair / Most Likely To Succeed" stuff in the yearbook. If so, then no.
3. What kind of car did you drive?
I was too young to drive in High School. When I graduated, my mom bought me a big brown ancient Ford Maverick. I was thrilled. It cost $400, and that was a LOT of money to my mom at the time.
4. It's Friday night...where are you?
Home. I didn't go out much.
5. Were you a party animal?
I'll steal Rob's answer here: I wasn't even a party vegetable.
6. Were you considered a flirt?
No no nononono. I wasn't really considered at all, and if I was, it was as the weird nerdy fat girl. Or as the friend who would do things for you without asking anything in return.
7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
Choir, and Jazz Ensemble, and Drama, and Speech Team, and Chorale...
8. Were you a nerd?
Oh, yeah.
9. Did you get suspended/expelled?
Nope, but I was sometimes threatened with it because I skipped class a lot.
10. Can you sing the fight song?
Oh, yeah. "Mount Miguel, we sing to thee / In praises will our voices be / Let fall on campus hall / brave deeds in answer to thy call / Faith and honor to sustain / shall be the goal we will attain / Mount Miguel, we pledge to thee / our faith and truest loyalty"
11. Who were your favorite teachers?
CT Whalen (choir & ensemble; I had a crush); Susan Tinsley (algebra; she's still my mom's dear friend, and I saw her a bit when I was in San Diego -- she remains to this day the best math teacher I ever had, and I took a LOT of math); Larry Nordell (chemistry and physics; he was kind of a jerk, but an amazingly good, funny, engaging teacher)
12. Where did you sit during lunch?
Hmm. Wherever. The quad, the library, my mom's office (she started working at my high school in my 10th-grade year, and still works there, nearly 30 years later)
13. What was your school's full name?
Mount Miguel High School (Mt. San Miguel is a nearby (small) mountain).
14. School mascot?
Matadors
15. Homecoming court?
I think my friend Stephanie Warren was homecoming queen, but I'm not sure I'm remembering right.
16. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Copying the cat again: If I could go back knowing what I know now, maybe I'd be willing to do a sort of Sam Beckett leap into my former self episode. You couldn't pay me to go back there and stay, though.
17. What do you remember most about graduation?
The dress I wore; that my parents wanted me to choose who would attend, since they were avoiding each other, but I refused to choose, so they both attended; that the Valedictorian threw away her approved speech and gave a come-to-Jesus sermon, and my Jewish uncle walked out.
18. Where did you go senior skip day?
Heh. I skipped a lot, but I don't know what I did that day (we called it Senior Ditch Day).
19. Have you gained some weight since then?
Yeah, some. Not a ton. I weighed 271 when I graduated (I have always been pretty aware of what I weigh) and now I weigh 325 or so.
20. Who was your Senior prom date?
Didn't go.
21. Are you planning on going to your 10-year reunion?
Didn't go. Nor to the 20th or 25th (which was last year).
22. Who was your home room teacher?
I honestly don't remember. Home room wasn't a big deal in my school, but it was 2nd period, and the only difference was that they read the school bulletin that period.
23. Who will repost?
Don't know or really care.
24. Did you play any sports?
Not in high school. In grade school, I was a big softball nerd.
25. Do you still talk to people from school?
Just one, unless my mom and siblings count.
26. What year did you graduate?
1982

Date: 2008-03-10 09:21 pm (UTC)Lots of someones!
2. Did you win anything in Seniors Who's Who?
Nope.
3. What kind of car did you drive?
I rode the bus, or my bike.
4. It's Friday night...where are you?
Depends on the year--by sophomore year I was at a party most Fridays, senior year I spent most weekends at my boyfriend's house.
5. Were you a party animal?
Maybe--I went to a lot but I didn't stay out late or act crazy. Just danced to the music and ate the munchies.
6. Were you considered a flirt?
Not according to a recent report by someone who was there, no. Although he does have a crush on me so the report may be biased.
7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
Nope.
8. Were you a nerd?
Nope.
9. Did you get suspended/expelled?
Nope.
10. Can you sing the fight song?
Nope.
11. Who were your favorite teachers?
Berk Moss (chem), Bill Pressley (civics), and Madame Bray (French).
12. Where did you sit during lunch?
In the cafeteria unless it was nice, then outside.
13. What was your school's full name?
Sunset High School
14. School mascot?
Apollo. Yes, the Greek god.
15. Homecoming court?
Nope.
16. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Only on terms of being who I am today emotionally and intellectually, but after all, the question makes no sense in any other terms.
17. What do you remember most about graduation?
That my parents fought and wouldn't speak to each other, so I had to run back and forth between them to make dinner plans for after. I was so angry with them, and felt completely unimportant--obviously I was less important than their need to fight.
18. Where did you go senior skip day?
I didn't skip--I didn't do that stuff.
19. Have you gained some weight since then?
Yeah, over 100 pounds.
20. Who was your Senior prom date?
The boy I'd been dating on and off for all of high school.
21. Are you planning on going to your 10-year reunion?
Went. Went to the 20th. Skipped the 25th (they gave less than 10 days' notice). Would kinda like to go to the 30th, if there is one.
22. Who was your home room teacher?
We didn't have home room.
23. Who will repost?
Stupid question.
24. Did you play any sports?
Only in class, as part of PE.

Sure, one or two. Heck, my ex-husband is one of them.
26. What year did you graduate?
1979.

Date: 2008-03-10 11:38 pm (UTC)1. Did you date someone from your school?
As a Junior I got up the nerve to ask someone to the junior/senior prom. I also took my best friends' sister sailing (we were chaperoned, so it must have been a date).
2. Did you win anything in Seniors Who's Who?
I probably got "Most Likely To Succeed" in the yearbook. I'd have to find them to check.
3. What kind of car did you drive?
I occasionally drove my parent's Chevy and/or Ford (they were both rural mail cariers and replaced one of their cars almost yearly). I didn't have a car of my own until midway through college.
4. It's Friday night...where are you?
Playing in the marching band at the football game, playing in the football game (Senior year only), home watching the original Star Trek series, or out at a basketball game (either playing or watching).
5. Were you a party animal?
Continuing to steal Rob's answer here: I wasn't even a party vegetable.
6. Were you considered a flirt?
No. Introvert central here.
7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
High School Marching and Concert Bands (Student Conductor Senior Year), also Church Choir (even after I had personally decided that I was an atheist).
8. Were you a nerd?
Oh, yeah.
9. Did you get suspended/expelled?
No.
10. Can you sing the fight song?
Well, I think I could sing the UNOFFICIAL one, and the Alma Mater, but no, not the actual OFFICIAL fight song.
11. Who were your favorite teachers?
Restricting it to High School, I would have to say my History/Civics teacher (Mr. Craig). I loved Mr. Morris - the band teacher I started with in Junior High, but had little respect for his replacements.
12. Where did you sit during lunch?
In the school cafeteria with practically everyone else.
13. What was your school's full name?
Bunnell High School.
14. School mascot?
Bulldog
15. Homecoming court?
I have no idea - not me.
16. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
No! I'd much rather go back to college instead.
17. What do you remember most about graduation?
I had to give the Valedictorian speech. I'm an introvert remember. So, I don't remember a whole lot other than it was in the Gymnasium (especially NOTHING about the speech I gave.
18. Where did you go senior skip day?
What's senior skip day? Obvious this is a tradition that failed to reach my neighborhood back when I was in High School.
19. Have you gained some weight since then?
Yep. Was under 200 in High School. Now weigh in the neighborhood of 330.
20. Who was your Senior prom date?
Not Applicable. Our Senior Prom was cancelled! It was the first year that our High School was integrated, and there were fears from the adults in charge that there might be a "racial incident". I don't know if this refers to racial violence (an actual possibility from diehard segregationists), or that blacks and whites might end up (gasp) dancing together.
21. Are you planning on going to your 10-year reunion?
Didn't go. Did go to one at around 20-25 years, and am attending my 40th reunion next weekend.
22. Who was your home room teacher?
Home room wasn't a big deal in my school, and it varied from year to year. One year it was my historys/civics teacher, Mr. Craig, who I listed as my favorite teacher.
23. Who will repost?
Don't know or really care.
24. Did you play any sports?
Football (Senior Year only), Basketball (was always a substitute and got cut when I tried out Senior Year, when we had an influx of talent due to integration)
25. Do you still talk to people from school?
Well, occasionally my brother. I occasionally talked to others for a few years, but stopped some time ago. We'll see if I decide to have time for any acquaintences after my upcoming reunion now that I'm retired.
26. What year did you graduate?
1968
27. (My addition) How many students were in your graduating class?
30 (It was a SMALL school even after integration and we had lots of classmates who dropped out before graduation.)

Date: 2008-03-12 12:53 am (UTC)Yes, a few.
2. Did you win anything in Seniors Who's Who?
I don't think so.
3. What kind of car did you drive?
I didn't have a car in high school. But we lived right next door to the school so I didn't need one.
4. It's Friday night...where are you?
Out with my friends, or on a date, usually. Maybe babysitting.
5. Were you a party animal?
I went to parties, yes, but I wasn't particularly wild.
6. Were you considered a flirt?
Probably not. I socialized comfortably in my own circle, but I've never gotten the hang of flirting.
7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
Nope. I thought band was totally dorky, and the Folk Club was full of very straight girls I had no interest in hanging out with. (By "straight" I mean conventional, mainstream. I was still straight in the orientation sense.)
I did take guitar lessons outside of school, though.
8. Were you a nerd?
I wasn't what we would now call a "geek", but some kids probably thought I was nerdy. I wasn't "cool". In my later high school years, I got into the hippie/freak crowd, after seeing the Woodstock movie. :)
9. Did you get suspended/expelled?
Nope, I didn't get into trouble.
10. Can you sing the fight song?
What the hell is a "fight song"?
11. Who were your favorite teachers?
My 10th grade biology teacher - he changed my life. Totally inspired me.
12. Where did you sit during lunch?
Either in the cafeteria with friends, or in the classroom of above-mentioned biology teacher. He was very popular and his classroom had become a hangout.
13. What was your school's full name?
<mbfffmmmbvvvft> (That's me muffling my answer. Because I've probably got it on file at a bank somewhere as a security question!)
14. School mascot?
Bulldogs. Eh...
15. Homecoming court?
I don't follow the question. Did we have a homecoming court? Probably. I didn't pay attention to these things.
16. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Only if I could do it differently. :)
17. What do you remember most about graduation?
That it poured buckets on our ceremony and we had to run inside and finish it in the auditorium.
18. Where did you go senior skip day?
I had a whole lot of senior skip days... I didn't even know there was an official one.
19. Have you gained some weight since then?
Yep, I've pretty much doubled in size.
20. Who was your Senior prom date?
I didn't go to either senior or junior prom. Remember, I was a hippie/freak. :) We looked down on such things.
21. Are you planning on going to your 10-year reunion?
So, time travel has been invented after all? (See question 16.) I just skipped my 35th reunion in 2007, never went to any of the others, either.
22. Who was your home room teacher?
I had a different one every year. Home room was not a memorable part of the day, though, so I don't remember who they were.
23. Who will repost?
What does this mean?
24. Did you play any sports?
Nope. I'm terrible at all sports requiring coordination. I rode my bike a whole lot, though, does that count?
25. Do you still talk to people from school?
Not any more. I did keep in touch with several high school friends for about 20 years, but after I moved 3000 miles away, I lost touch with them.
26. What year did you graduate?
1972
