So I gather that a number of my friends are participating in the LJ strike. I'm not.

Happy things today:

A beautiful, almost-full moon

Thai noodles with organic veggies

Getting to lounge around in bed this morning until I was ready to get up

Finished the manuscript in plenty of time (she was hoping for a week's turnaround; I did in in a little less than six days, and could have done it sooner if I hadn't had a couple of really-low-energy days this week)

Getting a new manuscript tomorrow

Just basically happy today, with relatively low pain and stuff. Life is good.

Y'know, with the stuff going on in my life right now?

No, I'm not participating in the boycott.

I hear you loud and clear. Hell, anyone is lucky if I even notice the boycott. I have to say, all the LJ drama/outrage barely makes a blip on my radar, and I can imagine that goes triple for you. I'm just happy my kid isn't puking and can somewhat breathe out of his nose again.

Some of mine are, but I'm not noticing a perceptible drop in the number of posts on my friendspage.

Me, I'm enjoying a reasonably good mood for a few minutes before I get dressed for another day that's likely to spoil it. )-:

I wasn't, but I was busy being Church Lady and didn't post. ;)

I had to drive [livejournal.com profile] hitchhiker to BART at dawn today. The moon was setting, all vaguely golden, and lovely.

Hmm. They're striking because they're the ones who provide all the content! And they want LJ to publish it for free, and not make any money off of it to pay for the servers and coders and troubleshooters.

So basically paid users like me (I have 3 paid accounts) are funding not just my use of the platform, but theirs too (not just the ones whose content I enjoy, but everybody's content).

But they're not posting any content, so maybe I will just take my money somewhere else, and then nobody will be paying for their content, and (warning, fallacy of the slippery slope approaching) then LJ will go out of business and they won't have anywhere to post their content. So there!

There are loads of places to publish content. Web 2.0 is all about pestering content providers to put their content here! not on that other company's site!

don't let the facts get in the way of your self-righteousness.

'Twas a joke--that is, a parody. Not a very good one, but then, mine usually aren't.

parody? whoa, apologies.

i like to take people at their word, and i also like to know when i wrongly barked at somebody.

am i just confused? i could have sworn you made the precise argument elsejournal -- that your paying supports the "freeloaders". was that also a parody? so, which of what you wrote here do you really believe -- nothing, some of it, or?

Well, it's true that paid users and advertisers are what allows basic accounts to exist. But basic accounts are what draw people to LJ, and I don't mind paying extra so other people can play in this sandbox. If I didn't like what I was getting, I wouldn't pay!

But I parodied it from the other side because the adolescent quality of the strike struck my funny bone. Rather like the adolescent whinging "You'll miss me when I'm gone!"

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised nobody got it, face to face nobody ever gets that I'm being funny either (when it's sarcasm or irony or parody, at least).

purely coincidentally i just saw http://cahwyguy.livejournal.com/702106.html?thread=2459034#t2459034 (he is wrong, btw; livejournal was more than self-sustaining before the sale to 6A. brad sold because he couldn't care less about business matters, didn't want to deal with them anymore, and sucked at delegating. selling was how he thought he could get back to just playing around, it had nothing to do with not being able to pay the bills, not even close.)

was your reply there also a parody or sarcasm? (i'm trying to suss out why it's not working for me.)

Yeah, I was trying harder to mark the humor with the "so there!" comment. Still not successful? Maybe I should use those mock tags [sarcasm]...[/sarcasm] like some people do.
