I haven't figured out the trick of getting one to stay on my hips instead of spiraling down to the floor. No doubt there are instructions on line, though, next time I bring home a hoop.
The trick is to watch someone else do it, and imitate their hip actions. I discovered that my hip circle wasn't circular enough. I had more side-to-side than front and back action. Once I fixed that, I could keep it up. Also, make sure the hoop is big enough for you. You want one that's as close to your belly-button as possible. They had two sizes as my local drugstore, and I bought one of each. The small one took a long time to learn to use.
